The D irector of Communications

will lead the creation and sharing of high quality, engaging content, connecting with our key audiences through media outreach, editorial placements, podcasts, social media, events and speaking opportunities. This is a high-visibility leadership role working closely with our CEO and executive team. This role reports to the Vice President of MarketingKey ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute a strategic communications plan to support corporate goals and the commercial launch of BetterWay. Partner with internal stakeholders and external agencies to drive engagement and business metrics. Effectively use communications strategies to connect with key B2B and B2C audiences, build our company image, and drive interest and usage of our BetterWay blood testing service.Grow our media presence with ongoing, active media outreach that connects us to our business, clinician and consumer audiences. Cultivate media and influencer relationships, build interest and coverage, and guide our agency team in pitching compelling stories.Leverage external channels – earned and owned –to win share of voice and share of discussion.Create compelling materials, including press releases and kits, bylines and articles, thought-leadership materials, social messaging, narrative/message documents, speaking points and presentations. Manage and grow the Babson newsletter. Serve as copyeditor for leaders as necessary.Act as a point of contact for media inquiries.Develop and maintain editorial calendars, messaging documentation and standard talking points for recurrent topics and emerging matters. Coordinate interviews, speaking engagements and photo shoots. Ensure the Babson team is media trained and ready.Monitor media coverage and social mentions to ensure appropriate responses. Create a dashboard report that can be used to regularly report results.Ensure websites, social media, and other digital channels are aligned to and supporting PR content. Work with digital marketing to create, maintain and grow a robust digital newsroom.Evaluate and identify events that we should be attending/sponsoring to reach our target audiences. Determine our presence, KPIs and manage logistics. Create and manage cross-channel pre- and post-event communications to drive awareness & connections.Ensure all leads are captured, and delivered to the sales team for follow-up communications in a timely manner; evaluate the quality of the event and determine if we should invest again.Partner with and manage freelancers and agencies.Required Skills & Experience:Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations or similar degree.Minimum of 7 years of relevant and progressively more responsible experience in public relations, media, and/or corporate communication roles, preferably in healthcare, life sciences and/or diagnostics industries.3+ years of managerial experience with the ability to lead and manage integrated marketing work teams.A demonstrated history of building relationships with reporters, getting placements and media coverage that drive meaningful metrics.A proven track record developing compelling story pitches that get attention with both national, trades and regional media.Polished writing and strong editing skills, with a capacity to learn, understand and turn insights into compelling pieces.Experience engaging media focused on multiple audiences: health care leaders, clinicians, payers, retailers, investors, as well as general consumers.Experience managing and optimizing events to generate awareness, leads and partnerships.Strong project management, collaboration, and presentation skills.Polished presence with the capability to act as company spokesperson.Understanding of social platforms, media listening/monitoring tools, algorithms and engagement best practices.
