Your Opportunity

We are seeking a Marketing & Communications Intern who is a driven and charismatic professional excited to help shape, lead, and grow marketing and external engagement initiatives at a fast-growing innovative company focusing on trust & safety, artificial intelligence, civic integrity, and other platform risks. You will join the business development team and work alongside world-class experts in tech policy, human rights, and emerging technology regulation.

Your primary objective is to successfully contribute to the design and execution of our marketing and communications strategy–aligned with high-impact company priorities. You will gain exposure to Fortune 1000 companies, fast-growing internet and technology companies, and organizations focused on solving global technology challenges. The opportunity to meet new people and build relationships with world-renowned experts will be immensely rewarding for the right candidate. Your areas of responsibility will include:

Marketing & Communications

Developing and executing marketing campaigns and promotional activities to increase engagement and brand awareness.
Coordinating with internal teams to ensure strategies are aligned.
Assisting in the creation and distribution of marketing materials and digital content.
Overseeing and posting on Duco’s social media accounts.
Monitoring and analyzing social media metrics and engagement to track the effectiveness of marketing efforts.
Assisting with newsletter and podcast creation and distribution.
Providing support for events and conferences by coordinating logistics, preparing materials, and assisting with event management.
Conducting market research to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Reading, evaluating, and summarizing news/opinion articles.
Updating media hits from our experts onto their profiles and our media page.
Identifying new marketing opportunities, including other social media and business outlets to gain visibility.
Completing other administrative and miscellaneous tasks.

Key Qualifications

A great candidate for this position should care deeply about the technology space and have an interest in and awareness of key policy, trust & safety, emerging technology, artificial intelligence, user protection, and regulatory issues. The ideal candidate loves to meet new people and build relationships, thrives in a fast-paced environment, has high attention to detail, and delivers products of excellent quality. In addition to the above qualifications, the ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, along with creativity and a knack for storytelling. They should be adept at crafting engaging social media content and have experience with various platforms, as well as the ability to analyze data and metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing strategies.

Leading candidates will have:

A desire to do something new and drive the growth of a young and fast-growing company to scale.
Experience running professional social media accounts. (Personal experience may be substituted, if applicable).
Working knowledge of topics related to tech policy, new/emerging technology, trust & safety, privacy, and/or policy is preferred.
Intellectual curiosity about emerging issues stemming from evolving technology, shifting tech regulations, user-generated content, data privacy, and geopolitics, and the ability to get smart quickly on new topic areas.
Passion for international business, geopolitical risk, technology policy, social media implications, and impact.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The ability to brief executives on the information needed to make critical decisions, reducing noise to enable strategic dialogues.
A focus on mission, team, and company; ability to serve as a leader, cultivate a strong work ethic, and continue building an inclusive company culture we are all proud of.
The ability to figure out how to get things done under pressure with limited resources and a positive attitude.

Location & Hours

Duco's headquarters are in San Francisco, CA. We work in a hybrid fashion–convening at the office several days each week while working remotely on other days. Duco’s team currently operates from 9 am-5 pm PT.

Bay Area and Washington D.C. candidates are preferred. Washington D.C. interns may work ET hours with the expectation to occasionally work PT hours–to be discussed in advance with their manager. The role is part-time (15-20 hours per week) with the opportunity to convert to a full-time internship in the summer. All candidates must use their own phones and laptops.

Compensation & Benefits

This is an educational internship, with the key outcomes being exposure and training at the intersection of public policy, consulting, and technology. Additionally, interns typically receive mentorship on next steps, introductions to other mentors, access to exclusive events, and letters of recommendation. Duco provides interns with a modest educational stipend.

We can work with the intern to ensure they receive academic credit, or university funding if that is an option at the intern’s institution. The intern is responsible for ensuring all requirements are met for school credit.
