The Intercultural Counseling Connection fosters a network of volunteer mental health professionals committed to providing culturally responsive, pro bono therapy for asylum-seekers, refugees, and other forced migrants living in Maryland. The Connection serves survivors of persecution, torture, conflict-related violence, and other forms of severe pre-migration harm.

Summary/Scope of the position:

The Program Associate provides administrative and logistical support for daily operations and activities of the Intercultural Counseling Connection, based in northeast Baltimore, Maryland.

This is a hybrid position. The Program Associate will work in the Connection office 1 to 2 days a week in collaboration with other staff; several core tasks related to this position can meanwhile be conducted from a remote/home-office site. Depending upon program needs and candidate aptitudes, this role has potential for increased hours and responsibilities over time.

Responsibilities:

● Maintain information management systems for tracking and documentation of client records and services received (Apricot/Bonterra, Charity Tracker).

● Gather and synthesize data (e.g., monthly counselor-client hours, periodic assessment scores and related metrics) for program tracking and grant reporting purposes, including those required under federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR)-funded collaboration for comprehensive services for survivors of torture.

● Maintain responsibility for scheduling interpreters for group and individual therapy sessions as requested by Connection staff and clinicians in the Connection’s pro bono provider network.

● Support Program Director and other staff in program funding activities, including assistance with preparation of grant proposals and reports, research on prospective funders, and periodic appeals.

● Assist in preparation and implementation of clinical training workshops for mental health providers, including administration of continuing education units (CEUs), preparation of resource materials, and logistical support.

● Assist in coordination of and agenda-keeping for regular Connection team meetings and those with co-located partner organization, Asylee Women Enterprise.

● Assist in coordinating transport assistance for Connection clients to/from counseling sessions or other service appointments, as needed.

● Assist with periodic updates to the Connection website, preparation of e-newsletter, and amplification of the program’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram).

● Assist in monitoring program’s strategic plan, including tracking key activities and keeping Connection team members on task and updated.

● Assist in representing the Connection during visits by grant foundation representatives and at diverse informational events in the Baltimore area.

● Maintain/update Connection contact lists (using content management/database systems as appropriate).

● Provide assistance in other areas of program operations and activities as needed.

Core qualifications:

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

● Direct experience working with culturally diverse individuals and communities.

● Experience in providing administrative and program support for nonprofit projects.

● Strong practical familiarity with information management/database systems (experience with Apricot especially desirable) as well as standard computer applications (Word, Excel).

● Dedication to supporting services for forced migrants, including asylum-seekers, refugees and immigrants of other status.

● Commitment to collaboration and open communication as part of a small, dedicated team.

● Related undergraduate degree (e.g. public affairs/administration, nonprofit policy/management, communications) or equivalent experience.

Desirable additional qualifications:

● Familiarity with funding environment for social services in greater Baltimore.

● Some degree of proficiency in Spanish, French, Arabic, Amharic, or other language dominant among area forced migrants/asylum-seekers.

● Graduate degree in related area (e.g. social work/social services, nonprofit policy/management, development, or humanitarian work) or equivalent experience.

Hourly rate will be commensurate with experience.
