POSITION LOCATION: Hybrid (will require days onsite and allow telework)

Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts seeks an Assistant Director, Digital Communications. As a member of Wolf Trap’s Communications and Marketing team, the Assistant Director, Digital Communications oversees the strategy and development of engaging content for Wolf Trap’s website, social media, and email newsletters to ensure that content is synchronized and cohesive across all channels. This position employs creative and dynamic storytelling techniques to enhance the promotion of Wolf Trap, its performances and programs. This position will also oversee technology partners including website, email, and social media. They will guide the strategy and direction of these technologies to ensure the tools are maximized and used efficiently. The position is a trustworthy colleague who works collaboratively with relevant internal stakeholders to strategize, plan, and deliver relevant content.

This is a hybrid position with required in-person days on the premises. During the summer season this position is required to regularly work evenings and weekends during performances in the Filene Center Press Office as assigned.

Duties And Responsibilities

Digital Content Development & Strategy

Manages and oversees the Foundation’s website content and functionality to ensure it is regularly updated and that the content is accessible and optimized for the web, driving traffic and engaging Wolf Trap audiences.
Conceives, researches, and writes articles, profiles, performance descriptions, and other content for the Wolf Trap website and email newsletters to deliver compelling narratives that align with the Foundation’s overall strategic goals and priorities.
In collaboration with the Manager, Publications, develops and manages editorial calendar to align with the Marketing and Communications teams, as well as other stakeholder groups in the Foundation.
Works closely with Programming, Opera, Development, Education, Communications, Marketing and Creative teams to develop and produce content to support organizational deliverables and other key objectives.
Acts as a resource within the team, fostering collaboration with colleagues to ensure the website, email, and social media content aligns with industry best practices.
Explores the integration of video content and animated graphics for the website and social media channels that align with organizational and artistic storytelling.
Evaluates and measures performance of overall content strategy.
Collaborates with Director, Communications on the on the strategy and content for a new Foundation website.
Reviews all digital content and other copyediting as needed.

Email Newsletter Strategy

Develops and executes a sophisticated email newsletter strategy.
Produces and edits public newsletters, including writing original content, texts, headlines, abstracts, captions, links, keywords, video, etc.
Utilizes analytics tools to measure the performance of email newsletters to make data-driven decisions to enhance effectiveness and reach.

Social Media Strategy

Works closely with Manager, Social Media to manage and oversees the social media strategy for the Foundation’s main social media channels.
Serves as liaison with the Opera and Education departments, and National Park Service to ensure branding and messaging aligns with Wolf Trap Foundation.
Ensures that social media content is aligned with organizational messaging and campaigns.
Collaborates with Communications team on visual storytelling for social media.

Education And Experience

6-8 years of relevant experience in newsroom and digital journalism, digital content strategy, and/or editorial
2-4 years of experience managing mid-level staff
Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in Journalism, English, Communications
Experience producing, managing and overseeing website content and email newsletter development
Experience with content management systems and enterprise email platform systems and ability to learn new technology tools.
Experience with email marketing and analytics
Experience editing and writing in a professional news capacity, and communications writing experience, including for online audiences and social media.
Proficiency in technology and appropriate software applications, such as Microsoft Office,Monday.com for project management, website CMS platforms; familiarity with email marketing tools

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Outstanding copyediting and proofreading skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Familiarity and experience with the performing arts and live music industries
Strong digital editorial skills and news judgment with a commitment to accuracy, news gathering and planning and building traffic.
Ability to plan and manage news and web projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Collaborative attitude and approach to duties.
Excellent time management skills, with evidence of overseeing, prioritizing, and executing multiple deadlines on a regular basis
Experience with handling sensitive information, and confidentiality with executive leadership and external stakeholders.
Sensitivity and commitment to the mission of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts
Represent the Foundation and Communications and Marketing Department at onsite and offsite meetings and events as assigned.

Physical Demands

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50 percent of the time
Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment (i.e. calculator, copier, printer, etc.)
Infrequently lift/move up to 20 pounds
