Executive Director

We seek a dynamic, experienced Executive Director to lead our organization in achieving our school mission and strategic goals. The ideal candidate brings strong fundraising, marketing, and community outreach expertise. This visionary leader will drive business development initiatives, oversee strategic planning, and implement process improvements to enhance our school's effectiveness.

Mission: The mission of HOPE Community Academy is to inspire students to achieve high academic success while embracing Hmong language and culture.

Primary Responsibilities

Board Governance

  • Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to engage them in policy decisions, fundraising initiatives, and increasing the school's visibility
  • Lead HOPE in alignment with the school's mission as defined by the Board of Directors
  • Communicate effectively with the Board, providing timely and accurate information necessary for proper Board function and informed decision-making
  • Oversee and facilitate school Board and committee meetings

Financial Performance and Viability

  • Ensure fiscal integrity through accurate budget proposals and monthly financial statements that reflect the school's financial condition
  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies and diversify revenue streams to support HOPE's mission
  • Manage fiscal resources to operate within approved budgets while maximizing resource utilization
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit major gifts, planned gifts, and relationships with foundations, corporations, individuals, and community organizations
  • Coordinate volunteer and professional relationships supporting fundraising activities and events
  • Review and approve contracts for services

School Mission and Strategy

  • Implement and oversee programs that fulfill the school's mission
  • Lead strategic planning processes to ensure HOPE's long-term sustainability and mission fulfillment
  • Enhance HOPE's public image through active community engagement and collaboration with professional, civic, and educational organizations
  • Serve as HOPE's primary spokesperson to constituents, media, and the general public
  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with various schools and organizations
  • Oversee marketing, communications, and public relations efforts
  • Create and distribute marketing materials, including a monthly newsletter to the Board of Directors

School Operations

  • Build and maintain an effective Administrative Leadership team with appropriate succession planning
  • Foster a positive organizational culture that attracts and retains diverse, high-quality staff
  • Promote professional development opportunities for staff and volunteers
  • Ensure effective administration of daily school operations
  • Sign authorized notes, agreements, and other legal instruments on behalf of the school
  • Maintain official records and documents, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Stay informed about significant developments and trends in education and nonprofit management

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field, plus completion of relevant professional development coursework
  • An administrators license is preferred, but not necessary”
  • Strong PreK-12 instructional leadership experience
  • Minimum 5 years senior nonprofit or educational management experience
  • Experience working effectively with a Board of Directors
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent public speaking ability
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising and financial management
  • Knowledge of the Hmong language (both written and verbal) and familiarity with Hmong cultural practices and traditions is strongly preferred for this position.
  • Experience working with diverse communities, with knowledge of Hmong culture and educational needs highly valued

  • Proven ability to supervise, collaborate with, and develop staff
  • Strong financial management skills including budget preparation, analysis, and reporting
  • Successful track record of generating new revenue streams
  • Experience establishing relationships with community stakeholders and funding sources
  • Excellent organizational abilities including planning, delegating, and program development
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning and implementation

Working Environment

  • Duties primarily performed in a school/classroom environment within a multi-level, elevator-accessible building
  • Extensive interaction with children of all ages required
  • Occasional work during field trips away from school
  • Periodic duties performed in outdoor environments including athletic fields and playgrounds
  • Possible exposure to varying weather conditions and noise levels (e.g., classrooms, cafeterias)
  • Ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of a school environment
