Communications & Marketing Specialist

The Communications & Marketing Specialist reports to the Philanthropy Director at Kin On. This is a part-time temporary role until October 2025. Work hours is 20-29 hours per week from Monday to Friday with some evenings and weekends. Hours may vary according to department needs and functions.

The communications & Marketing Specialist will support Kin On’s internal and external communications and marketing related to the 40th Anniversary campaign and associated fundraising efforts. This includes, but is not limited to storytelling, marketing collateral, social media content, and event promotions to increase awareness, engagement, and donor support during this milestone year. As a key member of the Fund Development & Communications team, this position ensures that all external and internal messaging accurately and consistently conveys the Kin On brand. The ideal candidate will have a passion to serve the Asian elderly community and a strong desire to share Kin On’s vision, mission and values with the community.

Role & Responsibilities

Advocate the Kin On Brand

  • Serve as primary brand ambassador and champion for the Kin On brand
  • Ensure that the Kin On brand and conveyed consistently throughout all internal and external communications channels
  • Provide the necessary tools and training to mobilize staff, board and volunteers to represent the Kin On brand
  • Convey the Kin On promise to supporters, clients, and greater community

Tell the Kin On Story

  • Create, archive and share human interest stories that demonstrate Kin On’s mission and work over 40 years
  • Create organizational and program specific collateral including, but not limited to, press releases, direct mail, website, printed posters, traditional media, and social media
  • Increase Kin On’s online and offline presence through integrated marketing efforts
  • Collaborate with program/department heads to meet all communications and marketing needs, including but not limited to program specific promotional campaigns, employee/HR campaigns, and fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with grants and proposal writing

Maintain Excellent Public Relations

  • Work with the Fund Development team to promote and enhance Kin On’s brand within the community
  • Actively seek partnership opportunities with media, community groups, professional associations, non-profits, corporations, and public and private funders
  • Represent Kin On at community, professional, and public functions

Monitor and Measure Success

  • Track key performance metrics internally and externally and produce pertinent reports to inform planning and evaluation
  • Monitor communications and marketing budget

Team Effort

  • Serve as a member of the Kin On Fund Development Team
  • Exemplify Kin On’s core values and leadership to all staff
  • Actively participate in team meetings and planning efforts
  • Support the Development team with communications and marketing to meet fundraising objectives and goals

Other

  • Support activities of the Fund Development & Communications Department, including but not limited to, donor cultivation, fundraising and stewardship efforts, event promotion and communications
  • Coordinate donor mailings (i.e.: direct mail, event invitations, newsletter mailing, etc.)
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Relations, non-profit management, communications, marketing, or other related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in communications, marketing, consumer relations with successive levels of responsibility and achievement
  • Knowledgeable in communications and marketing best practices
  • Experience in effective online marketing and social media
  • Proven ability to partner and work collaboratively with various constituencies, including staff, board, volunteers, clients, family members, and potential supporters.
  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication, planning, organization, marketing and public relations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, calendaring, email

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Working knowledge with the Seattle Asian community and good understanding of Asian Culture
  • Two years of professional experience in healthcare industry
  • Graphic design experience and proficiency with graphic design software
  • Bilingual in Chinese and/or other Asian languages
  • Experience with fundraising a plus

  • Pay: $25.00/hour - $29.00/hour
