Membership Engagement Manager


The Association of American Educators (AAE) is seeking applicants for a Membership Engagement Manager to serve members nationwide. This position is based in AAE’s Newtown, PA, office and will travel occasionally throughout the country to serve current and prospective members.

Job Summary

The Membership Engagement Manager is responsible for increasing membership engagement in AAE programs, including current members recruiting new members, member participation in policy surveys, member utilization of association benefits, and more. This role implements member communications strategies, contributing greatly to the production and execution of primary communications methods, including the flagship newsletter, Education Matters. This position reports to AAE’s executive director and coordinating with a team national and state staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the implementation of AAE’s communications strategies to advance AAE’s mission, growth, and member service, including enhanced communication with members, marketing strategies to potential members, and increased exposure of AAE’s mission, benefits, and projects.
  • Direct the AAE’s member referral program, supporting educator members throughout the country serving as local leaders introducing their colleagues to AAE
  • Oversee the development and distribution of AAE’s member emails, including AAE’s monthly member email.
  • Serve as coordinating editor of AAE’s flagship newsletter, Education Matters, helping select and create compelling and professional content for issues.
  • Assist in the development and publication of AAE promotional materials and printed content.
  • Support AAE’s external and member communications, including social media, advertising, marketing campaigns, published newsletters, membership surveys, regular member emails, etc.
  • Update AAE’s websites and marketing materials, as needed.
  • Assist in the drafting of AAE’s written content, including articles, op-eds, and blog posts.
  • Cultivate, promote, and safeguard AAE’s unique brand.
  • Manage AAE’s social media accounts, including overseeing digital marketing campaigns, posting regular content for members and supporters, and responding to messages.
  • Track, evaluate and report communications activities and membership engagement for internal and external reporting.
  • Responsibly respond to requests from current members, prospective members, the media, and the public.
  • Represent association at national and state level conferences, as needed.
  • Coordinate and assist with implementation of association logistics for conferences.
  • Assist in daily functions of Newtown, Pennsylvania, office.
  • Attend key meetings and events as needed.
  • Actively participate in staff calls and leadership team meetings.
  • Other duties as needed to fulfill mission of the association.


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum three years of experience in communications, marketing, or membership.
  • Respect for deadlines, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
  • Experience working with spreadsheets in Excel, creating and presenting PowerPoint presentations, and familiarity with common mass email software.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem solving skills and communications skills (both written and oral) with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to relationship-building for the organization, both internally and externally.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to work independently and in close coordination with others.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Philosophical alignment of association’s policy platform and mission.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional experience in K-12 education.
  • Understanding of education policy issues.
  • Experience in membership association industry.
  • Experience in issue advocacy or political campaigns.
  • Experience in graphic design.
  • Experience updating website content, including writing HTML.

Position Type

This is a full-time position. Days of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
