The Position
Under general supervision, performs technical and creative content work in the production of public information and communication materials and presentations to promote the City and inform the public about City initiatives, available programs, services, and activities; completes or oversees a variety of professional assignments involving media production activities Citywide; uses social media and other public forums to engage with the community, and performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This journey level classification is responsible for independently performing specialized duties related to content writing and the creation of all forms of multimedia marketing materials in support of the City’s communications functions. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED
May provide technical and functional direction over and provides training to less experienced staff and volunteers. Receives general supervision from the Public Information Officer; may receive direction from multiple City staff dependent upon assignment.

The typical job functions of the classification may include, but are not limited to, the functions below and are subject to changes in operational necessity.
- Assists City management in researching, designing, implementing, presenting, and evaluating a variety of outreach and educational programs and materials to market and build the City’s image.
- Participates in the oversight and development of branding and image; maintains consistency and clarity in messages and branding including review of materials developed by other staff for public distribution and communication programs, projects, and issues of importance to the City.
- Participates in planning strategies to disseminate information to customers and the public in an effective and positive manner.
- Participates in designing programs and materials to enhance the City’s image and maximize public awareness of programs and services available.
- Writes, edits, and prepares digital and print informational materials, including talking points, brochures, newsletters, memos, presentations, reports, press releases, and advertisements, to inform the community of city services, programs and events.
- Schedules posts/tweets and manages calendar; participates in the preparation of advertisements, press releases surrounding public outreach events, web page materials, and promotional brochures that target different groups, educational signage, newsletter articles and columns, and the development and staffing of outreach activities at various venues.

Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION GUIDELINES: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would most likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in communication, television production, marketing, or a related field.
Experience: One (1) year of increasingly responsible experience in a business or journalism setting with responsibility for developing, presenting, and implementing a wide variety of written, verbal and multimedia materials.
