More than 100 volunteer staff support, share, and raise funds for kindness initiatives throughout the world.
Job Summary
Random Acts is looking for a creative, organized, and mission-driven Newsletter Content Writer to craft the voice of our monthly newsletter and contribute to our email communications strategy. This volunteer works directly with the Marketing Communications Coordinator and reports to the Marketing Manager. The role also maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Writing Manager to ensure consistency with Random Acts’ editorial guidelines, inclusive voice, and brand tone.
The Newsletter Content Writer collaborates across teams to collect stories, updates, and relevant campaign content, shaping it into compelling copy that reflects Random Acts’ values and mission.
Responsibilities
- Plan and write engaging content for Random Acts’ monthly newsletter and occasional email campaigns
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Writing, Storytelling, Fundraising, Events, and Executive Leadership, to gather timely and relevant content
- Ensure each newsletter aligns with organizational initiatives, current campaigns, available content, and audience engagement strategies
- Incorporate messaging from the Board of Directors or Executive Team when appropriate
- Partner with the Digital PR Associate on scheduling, newsletter structure, content priorities, and reporting
- Uphold the Random Acts editorial style guide, ensuring inclusive, global, and on-brand writing
- Make proactive suggestions for content segmentation, features, or new editorial formats
- Meet monthly deadlines, respond to feedback, and participate in team planning calls as needed
Desired Qualifications And Skills
- 1–3 years of writing, journalism, or communications experience
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a clear, concise, and inspiring tone
- Ability to translate cross-departmental information into compelling newsletter content
- Familiarity with email platforms (Brevo preferred) or a willingness to learn
- Comfortable working independently and in a collaborative remote environment
- Consistent internet access and reliable email communication
- Able to commit 3–4 hours per week to Random Acts projects
- Alignment with the mission and volunteer spirit of Random Acts
- Familiarity with inclusive language, DEI&B principles, and nonprofit communications preferred
This is a remote work position. Applicants must have regular and reliable access to the Internet as well as the motivation to dedicate their time to the organization.
No travel is required or expected for this position.
Software/hardware will not be provided by Random Acts.
The role is anticipated to take between 3-4 hours per week.
