Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative, focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. We believe when girls and women are in positions of influence, they work to create a more just and equitable world for everyone.
Girl Up operates a global network of regional affiliates and serves 150,000 girls in 150 countries. We deliver evidence-based leadership development training through our girl-led Clubs, programs, and events. As members of a global movement, girls are a force for social good — connected to a community of their peers who are advocating for policy change and advancing gender justice.

The Associate, Community & Impact, Girl Up will grow and strengthen Girl Up’s global community through metrics and evaluation and data collection and analysis. In their work for Girl Up the Associate will help others understand complex concepts and engage with colleagues across the organization. The Associate, Community & Impact is the data assessment support system for our global community and serves as the M & E working group lead.
The Associate, Community & Impact, Girl Up will report to the Manager, Global Community Engagement, and be a member of the Program team. The Associate, Community & Impact will collaborate across Girl Up's other departments, including Development, communications, and Global Operations.
This position is based in Washington, DC.
Essential Functions
Community Platform
- Support management of the Girl Up Community Platform including, but not limited to, responsive digital strategy, platform exclusive events and programming, configuration and design projects, and weekly community newsletter with oversight
- Interact with third-party vendors to implement, support and enhance the Community Platform and community engagement at large with oversight
- Train and support Girl Up team members in community management strategy and techniques, including, creating custom tailored strategies for departments and individual team members to utilize, and hosting quarterly community meetings to ensure alignment across departments
- Support Community Engagement Manager to build and oversee a system to track youth engagement across programs to optimize leader outreach, opportunity matching, and youth journey visualization
- Support Community Engagement Manager as they build and oversee a system with accountability mechanisms for collecting and managing youth feedback and enhancing membership engagement
- Support the development of the Girl Up Community Academy to enhance and support member participation in the online Community, including leader onboarding process, including, but not limited to, developing video scripts, training tools, digital materials, and configuration and design with oversight
- Support the standardization of HQ community engagement programs, resources and terms and conditions for global adaptation and operations
- Support Girl Up Club engagement and links to the Community
- Work closely with Community Engagement Manager and team to collect and report monthly, quarterly, annual metrics
- Liaise with Girl Up Communications team to leverage Girl Up’s online Community to align with Girl Up HQ’s broader strategy and branding
Impact Management
- Coordinate Girls’ Leadership Index (GLI) survey implementation and analysis with Manager, Global Community and other internal stakeholders
- Support communications with program leads and coordinate survey distribution with oversight
- Collect, manipulate, visualize, and analyze data to assess and share survey findings
- Draft and finalize GLI reports to support Girl Up’s broader M&E strategy
- Contribute to applying compelling data to support Girl Up’s action plan to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the workplace and across programming
- Collaborate to develop and deploy program evaluation and engagement analysis efforts and decentralize access to data by connecting the data and then building dashboards and reports so insights can be discovered and shared
- Collaborate to develop program performance metrics and evaluation criteria
- Assist in identifying opportunities for program efficiency and effectiveness at all stages of program development
Special Projects
- Liaise across departments to ensure Community impact and engagement seamlessly feed into organization-wide strategy
- Collaborate with ongoing assessment of Club and platform needs and opportunities
- Support other initiatives as needed with program evaluation, developing both qualitative and quantitative tools
- Automate manual processes to make the most up-to-date data available and enable teams to work more efficiently
- Other duties as assigned
Selection Criteria
- Bachelor's degree required
- 1-3 years of work experience in program or database management in relevant fields, such as gender equality, youth engagement required
- Commitment to Girl Up’s mission and core values preferred
- Ability to problem-solve, think critically and creatively
- Experience working with and for young people globally, including those from diverse backgrounds, on social change-focused campaigns, programs, or initiatives preferred.
- Experience with ways of working that center and empower marginalized advocates and youth preferred
- Robust project administration skills, including attention to detail, and a track record of consistently delivering high-quality work required
- Ability to problem solve and work independently without close management while consistently sharing progress and asking for support as needed with supervisor and team
- Knowledgeable in adolescent girl issues and rights preferred
- Commitment to fostering an anti-racist and inclusive workplace
- Experience and demonstrated interest in youth leadership development
- Excellent customer service skills with a passion for member engagement
- Experience in Excel, Google Drive, Microsoft Office, Asana, Canva and Outlook preferred
- Preferred experience in HTML/CSS
- Preferred experience in interface design and user experience optimization
- Preferred experience with a CMS
- Experience with Quantitative Data/Qualitative Data Analysis and M & E
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Willing to travel up to 20% of time
