Yahoo is seeking an experienced newsletter editor and strategist to lead the Yahoo News newsletter portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and execute a broader newsletter strategy across our news, entertainment and life content verticals with the goal of expanding into new audience segments, growing daily active users and deepening engagement through great editorial newsletters. The person in this role will work directly with our journalists, content curation and audience development teams to generate ideas and build new innovative formats, and will partner closely with our analytics, product, marketing and sales teams.
The ideal person for this role will be passionate about the impact newsletters can have in building relationships with users and will take a thoughtful approach to making sure our newsletter voice, style, topics, content and formats build meaningful, habitual connections with readers and meet their needs. The right candidate will have extensive experience in setting and executing strategy and a formidable track record of delivering on growth goals. Strong editing and writing skills and a collaborative spirit required. This is a strategy and growth role, but we’ll be building new things and experimenting, so expect to roll up your sleeves and get granular, too. We’ll need critical thinking and creativity. Sense of humor is always appreciated.
Responsibilities
- Oversight and audit of the existing newsletters and strategy in the Yahoo News group (there are currently four)
- Leading the development of a smart, relevant go-forward strategy for newsletter and audience growth that aligns with the Yahoo News mission, brand vision and goals
- Setting and achieving measurable growth goals
- Generating and facilitating new ideas for creative and innovative newsletter formats and experiences
- Effective coordination/ communication across editorial, audience development, product and marketing teams
Qualifications
- 5+ years experience in editorial newsletter strategy, development & production
- Excellent editorial judgment, knowledge of standards & style and demonstrated ability to craft an engaging “voice” for newsletters
- Familiarity with a variety of newsletter service providers a plus (Stensul, etc.)
- Demonstrated success in growing audiences and engagement
- Fluency and comfort with newsletter metrics and a demonstrated ability to find and act on insights in the data
- Familiarity with and love for the soup-to-nuts process of launching a newsletter, from signup to onboarding to a daily habit

The compensation for this position ranges from $129,210.00 - $281,305.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions, in addition to equity incentives.
