Title: Photo Editor
Duration: 18 Months Assignment
Work Site Location: Washington, DC 20049 - Remote
Summary:
Looking for an experienced freelance photo editor for a 18 month assignment. This position will support Media’s photo department in the development of photography for newsletter publications through production of photo assignments and photo research.
Responsibilities:
• Supports the photo department in the development and execution of photography for newsletters (which includes, but is not limited to: The Girlfriend, Sisters, The Ethel, Veteran Report & The Arrow).
• Researches and procures existing photography (news, celebrity, lifestyle, travel, conceptual, food, product, and entertainment, archival, publicity, and personal collection imagery) for publications. Also, has a broad knowledge of assignment photographers’ and their existing image collections.
• Assigns and produces photo shoots specific to the newsletters, their social media accounts and other related projects
• Contact & coordinate procurement of images with publicists and managers
• Obtains, manages and delivers photography: Keeps images organized, downloads images from sources, and orders high-resolution images. Ensures accurate credit and caption information on deadline.
• Enter relevant information into software regarding stock photography in order to bring photo usage to invoice stage.
• Creates contracts and handles any relevant paperwork with assigning photography
• Under direction of the photo editors, acquires usage rights and all necessary releases for imagery. Assists with tracking of all contracts for assignment photography in a timely manner.
• Works within budgets prescribed by the photography department.
• Archives images in the digital asset management system
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 3 years professional experience working in a national publication’s photo department, stock house, online publication or as freelance photo-researcher
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
• Knowledge of all styles of photography
• Must have experience with organizing and tracking multiple images and multiple projects at the same time
• Experience conducting photo research with major stock agencies and public archives
• Web and Social Media savvy
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
Work experience:
• A master at researching news, celebrity, lifestyle, travel, conceptual, food, product, and entertainment photography, with broad and deep knowledge of archival sources, PR, boutique, diverse, and larger stock houses absolutely necessary to be considered
• Has worked in a creative atmosphere for publications and websites
• Experience with a Digital Asset Management system and metadata
• Experience with database systems which track assignments, contracts & photographers
• Experience with billing; reporting usage to vendors; tracking usage and pricing information; negotiating rates
• Experience with a CMS a plus
• Photo shoot production a plus
