The Role: The Head of Web Development and Technology is a new role that will be charged with architecting the future of the technology operations at The Daily Upside. TDU is a media startup, which will require you to wear many hats, and most days will not look the same. We are looking for a highly skilled developer on both the front-end and back-end, but also someone who can think holistically about business needs. The role is an opportunity for the right person to come in and truly build alongside the Founder & CEO.
What this means is that you will:
- Own Our Tech Stack. We send nearly 1 million emails per day — you will own the technical aspects of our email program from authentication to email templates to deliverability to reputation monitoring to inbox placing. You will also own all technical aspects of our website operation.
- Scale Our Reach. Work closely with our marketing team to optimize and scale our organic and paid marketing efforts. Improve landing page optimization, enhance the organic reach of our journalism via SEO, news aggregators, and partnerships.
- Create New Lines of Business. Work closely with our brand partnerships team to ideate and implement new product opportunities across newsletter and website platforms.
- Embody the Brand. Have a passion for news, business and financial insights that The Daily Upside brings to the fore.
Who You Are: You are a growth-minded web developer with experience building consumer-facing digital products. The ideal candidate thrives on the front-end with a keen eye for design, product strategy and UI/UX. At the same time, you have working knowledge of back end technologies — enough to be dangerous. You will work hand-in-hand with design, marketing, and our editorial staff in a newsroom passionate for digital storytelling.
You will work cross-functionally on projects including landing page AB testing and optimization, building our referral program, the development of content distribution strategies to increase the reach of our journalism, building in-house tools to optimize processes for our editorial staff, and the rollout of new revenue modalities on both web and newsletter formats.
The technical product lead will own all facets of our email program, from deliverability across hundreds of email clients, to domain and IP reputation, to the operation of Everest, our email success platform.
You will have the ability to hand-code responsive pages using HTML, CSS and have knowledge of design tools like Adobe Photoshop / Figma (capable of converting PSDs to pixel-perfect HTML/CSS).
You will have familiarity with website content management systems including wordpress and a demonstrated knowledge of creative A/B testing, media formats and internet technologies. Knowledge of SEO best-practices and Wordpress optimization.
