Job Description
Providing support for continuous operations required for the operation of the Camp Dodge Joint Maneuver Center (CDJMTC) Wellness Center (WC). Administering physical fitness programs for the CDJMTC-WC patrons.
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Teaching, coaching, and training patrons on proper technique of using exercise machines and other fitness equipment to gain maximum benefit and reduce possibility of injury. Ensuring the patrons utilize machines, weights, and equipment in the way it was designed to achieve maximum benefit, reduce risk of injury and damage to the equipment. (B) Teaching, coaching, and training patrons on proper technique of using free weights to gain improved levels of physical fitness and strength. Monitoring free weight activity to ensure safe methods of utilization, reducing the risk of injury and damage to the facility and equipment. (C) Teaching, coaching, and training patrons in a variety of aerobic and anaerobic fitness activities and/or a combination of these activities. (D) Teaching, coaching, and training patrons on a variety of flexibility, stretching and balance related fitness activities. (E) Teaching, coaching, training, monitoring, and supervising of sport activities such as basketball, volleyball or running that occur in the WC or at CDJMTC as part of a WC program. Ensuring patrons conduct themselves in a manner that reduces the risk of participant injury and prevents the damage of the facility or equipment. Ensuring proper set up of equipment such as volleyball nets and ensure serviceability of all related equipment. (F) Provide limited personal training services to authorized WC patrons who seek an individual guided program to assist the patron in achieving a fitness goal. Services will be tailored to the individual patron based upon exercise history. Personal training services will be scheduled and monitored by a supervisor (G) Delivering health and wellbeing programs to patrons who desire products or information on physical fitness, exercise, injury prevention and ways to improve overall health. Introducing such activities to patrons in a manner that promotes maximum participation or involvement by interested patrons. Assisting patrons in establishing realistic and obtainable goals. Providing encouragement and monitoring progress of individual patrons as required. Distributing informational materials on exercise, fitness, and nutrition from relevant, approved sources as determined by a supervisor.
Performing duties necessary for independent operation of the WC and Lodging Operation.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- Performing staff shift procedures including opening, closing, securing and locking/unlocking the facility as required. Using the computer to document patrons' progress, assist with newsletter articles and research. (B) Performing custodial duties in the WC to include fitness rooms, gym, indoor running track, locker rooms, office, hallway, break area, storage areas and entry areas in order to provide a safe, clean, sanitized and orderly surrounding for patrons and fellow employees. Duties include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, removal of trash, cleaning and sanitizing of exercise equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, weight racks, bars and benches. Duties performed by using the appropriate cleaning chemicals, supplies or equipment. (C) Performing laundry duties to include collecting, bagging laundry for cleaning, folding, and storing WC towels to provide adequate towels for WC patrons' usage. (D) Performing office duties as assigned in support of WC utilizing the computer to document facility usage, assist with newsletter articles, researching current fitness and training strategies, monitoring military fitness regulations and guidelines. Report and record data as required. Tracking the progress of patrons in their fitness health goals. Assisting a supervisor with the scheduling of recurring events and ad hoc events to minimize overbooking conflicts. Maintaining effective communication and feedback with a supervisor, fellow employees, patrons, and groups of patrons. Provide assistance in planning, organizing and executing military programs and special events, as determined by a supervisor or higher levels of leadership. (E) Performing duties as needed in support of the Lodging operation. Providing professional, courteous service to Lodging customers in the absence of a Lodging clerk. Utilizing the computer to make reservations, check in guests, check out guests, take payments and make keys as needed. Provide assistance to Lodging guests in various customer service-related means. Providing coverage to the Lodging operation based on special requirements such as weekends, closures, and holidays. (F) Reporting maintenance assistance needs in a timely manner to a supervisor. Performing maintenance inspections, adjustments, and repairs to provide reliable and safe exercise equipment for the patrons. Performing maintenance and adjustments as described in equipment manuals. Removing unsafe equipment from use. Submitting purchase request orders for repair parts or maintenance work order requirements to a supervisor. (G)Representing the Wellness Center through tours, briefings, and demonstrations as necessary. (H) Perform all duties in a professional manner, without controversy, using good judgment, displaying initiative and with a cooperative attitude. Follow Wellness Center operating procedures as determined by a supervisor or higher levels of leadership. Follow all rules, policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines as established for and pertinent to the Wellness Center and CDJMTC. Maintain professional work relationships with fellow employees, patrons, and management. Perform work in a safe and reliable manner displaying initiative and good judgment. Report problems in a timely manner to a supervisor. (I) Achieving and maintaining the American Red Cross certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Maintaining the ability to perform procedures in accordance with American Red Cross guidelines associated with CPR and AEDs.
Special Requirements: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Common Access Card (CAC). Must have an Iowa Driver's License. Must maintain American Red Cross certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and automated external defibrillator.
Hours: Monday -Friday, 6:00 am -2:30 pm, Occasional Weekend Support
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Experience equal to two years of full-time work in a recreational, arts, crafts, or music activity program;
OR
two years of post high school education in art, music, physical education, recreation, the social/behavioral sciences or closely related areas;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience in one of the above areas substituting up to a maximum of thirty semester hours for one year of experience;
OR
employees with
current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to eighteen months of full-time work as an Activities Aide.
