Performs complex (journey level) training and development work for the Talking Book Program. The Talking Book Program (TBP) provides free library services to qualifying Texans with a visual, physical, or reading disability. The Digital Literacy Training Specialist will be responsible for creating, planning, and conducting educational and training sessions using a variety of training methods for people with print disabilities. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL TASKS
Delivers digital literacy and assistive technology training services (classroom and web-based learning) to children and adults with visual, physical, or reading disabilities.
Designs and prepares curricula and training course outlines, and selects or develops instructional methods, training aids, manuals, and other materials.
Establishes training schedule and coordinates training classes.
Formulates learning objectives and plans, designs, and develops methods for the assessment and evaluation of training effectiveness.
Assists in compiling data and preparing reports on training program.
Assists with preparing articles for publication such as newsletter and blog articles.
May train other staff.
Perform special duties as assigned.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures.

Qualifications
Veterans, Reservist or Guardsmen with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields 11Z, 18Z, 19Z, 35Z, 74D, 47A, 47C, 47D, 47F, 47G, 47H, 47K, 47L, 47M, 120X, 121X, 123X, 15 or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirements may meet the minimum qualifications for this position and are highly encouraged to apply. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with coursework in education, technology, communications, or a related field. Additional years of experience in training and development work can substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
One year experience providing instruction and training.
Experience providing online instruction/training.
Experience using standard software packages, including Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to manage, design, develop, and deploy training products.
Ability to assess training needs.
Willingness and ability to learn new technology.
Excellent customer service skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in education, technology, communications, library and information studies, or a related field.
Experience with appropriate instructional methods for individuals who are blind or have vision impairment.
Experience with computer assistive technologies such as text and speech readers, or any other assistive or adaptive devices for people with disabilities.
Experience with large print, speech, braille, and other adaptive technologies (JAWS, Narrator, Voice Over, etc.).
Experience adapting instruction based on learner’s needs. Experience working in a library and/or talking book library.
Ability to speak/write in Spanish.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Unofficial complete college transcripts required, as applicable. Official transcripts may be required upon hiring.
This position requires some travel (5-10%), including overnight travel.
This position requires some evening and weekend hours with ability to accrue compensatory time.
This position requires frequent moving, carrying, and pushing of heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
Final candidates will be asked to give a formal presentation.

SUPERVISION
Works under team leadership of the Public Awareness Coordinator.
Supervised by the Division Director, Talking Book Program.
This position does not supervise staff.
