Digital Communications Coordinator
Salary Range: $5,810 – $7,142 per month

Within the District’s overall marketing and communications strategy, this position is responsible for the proactive dissemination of timely and relevant information to students, the campus community and the general public regarding the activities and objectives of the District using a wide range of media with an emphasis on digital technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
• Provide broad communications support for departments and organizations across the District, empowering students, parents, staff, faculty, administrators, elected officials and community members with clear and persuasive messaging about the mission and work of the District.
• Oversee, maintain and further develop the District's social media presence and social media guidelines, consistent with the District’s brand and voice. Monitor and report on analytics, and devise strategic approaches to most effectively reach students and the public with a variety of key messages.
• Write, design and/or produce other communications, including campus emails, student emails, a regular e-newsletter, a printed newsletter, graphics for internal and external marquees, articles and news stories for the website, PowerPoint presentations, and videos for various social media platforms and the website. When appropriate, take photographs to illustrate communications.
• Maintain and promote the District’s online newsroom, marketing it to both internal and external viewers.
• Maintain editorial calendar for key social media campaigns to deliver new and engaging content, including content that is time-sensitive and critically important for students or prospective students, such as registration dates and various deadlines.
• Stay abreast of rapid changes in communication technology, particularly social media, regularly reevaluating the District’s practices to ensure that desired audiences are being reached. Use data and analytics to further improve communication methods.
• Assist in coordinating and writing content for promotional and marketing projects; assist in the development of advertising campaigns and community outreach activities when needed.
• Stay abreast of college news and information, initiatives, and trends in higher education. Maintain regular contact with District administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
• Maintain a working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to student privacy (FERPA) and communications accessibility (ADA).
• Serve as secondary liaison or spokesperson for media/public inquiries; research request for information; disseminate District information, as required. Develop, edit, design and distribute media communications, press releases and public service announcements. Maintain relationships with journalists. Advise and assist District administrators in matters involving written communications and public relations.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge of:
• Communications methods and modern communication tools, including wide range of social media platforms
• Writing techniques, grammar, spelling, and editing methods to achieve a consistent voice for District communications
• Graphic design and photography principles
• Videography, including editing
• Storytelling skills and best practices
• Digital marketing trends and use of analytics and data
• Multimedia software and other software applications, including desktop publishing, video creation and graphic design.
• MS Word computer applications for word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database management.
• Pertinent federal, state, and local codes, laws, policies, and safety procedures.
Ability to:
• Develop, design and produce a wide variety of communications as well as public relations and marketing materials
• Communicate clearly and concisely across all platforms, in writing and in visual multimedia
• Think quickly and strategically, recognizing opportunities to increase engagement and empower students with important information, while also being vigilant for real or potential public relations crises
• Engage students with communications that are eye-catching, unique, authentic, and compelling
• Understanding analytics and use data to evolve practices over time in response to rapid changes in communication methods
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing as necessary
• Work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the public.
• Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and disabilities of community college students and staff.
• Have compassion and concern for student privacy and overall student wellbeing.
• Sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; use a computer keyboard; lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
• Operate a wide variety of professional production equipment including still and video cameras.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in communications, multimedia, journalism, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
Experience:
• Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience in communications or public relations, preferably in a community college or public agency.
