Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations, the Digital Communications Specialist will be charged with developing and implementing strategic plans and tactics to drive awareness and engagement through targeted creative, compelling and branded digital content. Specifically, the role will support CMSRU’s goal of building brand awareness and driving engagement through information sharing and storytelling by utilizing multiple forms of communication, including, but not limited to, social media, Web, multimedia and other emerging communication platforms.
The Digital Communications Specialist will be a skilled writer with a command of editorial voice, tone and style that fits each channel within the overall communications program. He or she will produce a high volume of content under tight deadlines to ensure satisfactory and timely promotion of news and events, and must have good judgement and the ability to work independently.
Marketing and Public Relations reports to the Office of the Dean, but also reports to and supports university-related communication through the Division of University Relations. The digital communication specialist will follow university standards when applicable.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media
- Plan, monitor, strengthen, and maintain presence on CMSRU channels through management of organic posting, scheduling, and engagement for accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Proactively lead social media content planning for the Medical School, including content creation, asset development, and copy/messaging; seek and lead new opportunities for the Medical School social media.
- Manage, support, and grow the Medical School social communities: Prospective Students, Current Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Staff; Support social media needs of internal departments and programs as needed.
- Review and analyze data across platforms; use performance metrics to formulate strategies that build awareness and increase engagement.
- Coordinate student intern to help with generating content, covering events, and providing a student perspective in CMSRU’s social channels.
Digital Communications and Marketing
- Contribute content and assist in the development of weekly Medical School newsletter, Weekly Update, to promote school events and news.
- Design and deploy other emails to current students, prospective students, faculty, staff, and university stakeholders utilizing the Medical School Constant Contact account and other digital means as they develop, work with internal clients requesting assistance, track engagement results, and report findings.
- Design, aggregate, and deploy digital slides for CMSRU’s digital signage.
- Assist in updating Medical School webpages, creating content that is SEO friendly and accessible, assisting the director with content strategy.
- Work on special projects as needed, including but not limited to, supporting major events like the White Coat Ceremony and Commencement, cover interesting/newsworthy educational events on some nights and weekends.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree. Degree in interactive media, journalism, communications, English or other related discipline is preferred.
- Two (2) years of professional experience (preferably in digital communications within higher education/non-profit).
- Strong writing and editing skills, with experience creating content that is suitable for a social audience; excellent grasp on current popular culture and the medical student demographic.
- Ability to work independently and simultaneously handle multiple projects in busy office environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, service orientation, and ability to handle situations with diplomacy and a professional demeanor at all times.
- Proficiency in Google Analytics and knowledge of social media management apps/software.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs required; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
- Wordpress experience, Cascade Content Management System experience, and Constant Contact experience helpful.
- Higher education experience strongly preferred.
