Love the Bay Area? KQED is looking for someone who cares deeply about news in the Bay Area and wants to deliver helpful information through relevant digital platforms, particularly email newsletter and social media. The Platforms Engagement Producer will play a critical role in our newsroom’s ongoing mission to inform and engage audiences across digital platforms and products.
The KQED News digital engagement team is devoted to community-focused listening and action, bringing our award-winning coverage to a wide variety of digital platforms and spaces in order to best serve our audiences.
This role will have a primary focus on KQED’s News Daily email newsletter, which is delivered to 140,000+ subscribers every weekday. Your work involves selecting crucial stories one day, and writing or editing compelling newsletter copy the next.
In addition to taking a leading role on the News Daily, you will also be working with KQED News’s Digital Engagement team to design innovative, interactive and inviting experiences for communities to engage with our journalism across social platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook and Reddit. You’ll also explore areas of opportunity beyond social media – like our app push notifications and texting campaigns. Engagement also means being on the radio.
The ideal candidate relishes flexing their excellent writing abilities, strong command of voice and superb judgment when it comes to creative interpretations of the news that are of the highest journalistic integrity. We are also looking for someone who is deeply collaborative, someone with the ability to communicate clearly and compassionately — especially in regard to timeliness — within a team, the newsroom and the wider organization. This role will work closely with colleagues around the KQED newsroom, including radio, podcasts, live events and beyond to implement initiatives that build a two-way dialogue between KQED and its audiences. You’ll help grow reach, engagement and referral traffic; spot trends, including new platforms and changes to existing ones; and monitor analytics and metrics to further develop the newsroom’s audience strategies.
KQED envisions a public media organization with a culture that centers on human dignity, equity, and belonging. This will enable us to better serve and reflect the Bay Area through diverse and inclusive storytelling.
We value the contributions of marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people — and we believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do, and we strongly encourage members of these communities to apply.
The mission that drives us:

We provide citizens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions; convene community dialogue; bring the arts to everyone and engage audiences to share their stories. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas.
