AUTM is the nonprofit leader in efforts to educate, promote and inspire professionals to support the development of academic research that changes the world and drives innovation forward through technology transfer.
In this role, you will be employed by AUTM, largely in support of its multi-year grant to operate the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC). The FLC is a nationwide network of more than 300 federal laboratories, agencies, and research centers that fosters commercialization best practice strategies and opportunities for accelerating federal technologies from out of the labs and into the marketplace.
What will you do:
The Marketing & Communications Associate provides support and project management for AUTM and FLC Promote AWARDS activities, to increase awareness of the Consortium and Association.
FLC Awards
Manage Award submission process as staff liaison to FLC Awards Subcommittee assisting with:
- updates to awards criteria/instructions
- defining any new awards categories
- Setting agenda for meetings
- Taking attendance and minutes
- Communication of notes, tasks
- Awards submissions and judging platform (Slayte), to address problem areas and updates
Troubleshoot platform issues
Relay concerns regarding platform to Slayte contact
Create awards submission forms
Test platform before awards cycle opens
Assist in score tabulation
Coordination of judges' review meetings
Assist judges with platform questions, and technical questions.
- Recruit judges within the FLC community
- Work with Regional Coordinators to modify “Best in Region” selection process if needed based on feedback from 2023 cycle
- Create and order Certificates and trophies
- Collect information from awards cycle
Review proofs and communicate with vendors for awards creation and shipping
Plan and produce Awards ceremony
Coordinate with winners to gather information pre and post awards ceremony
Assist with Script writing and PowerPoint presentations
- Respond to communications with winners regarding attendance at awards ceremony
- Plan and Manage notifications to policymakers
Gather information to create email and social media campaigns
Work with Digital Media Associate to create collateral
Follow up with legislators
- Support promotional efforts for winners with other staff
AUTM Awards
Coordinate the submission process review and selection of the AUTM Howard Bremer Award and Volunteer Service Awards.
- Create forms
- Schedule judges' meetings
- Support submitters through the application process
- Inform winners/losers of the Howard Bremer application process; develop congratulatory emails; provide content for newsletter announcement/press release
- Coordinate onsite logistics for acknowledgment at the AUTM Annual Meeting
Metrics/Survey Support
- Provide administrative and data management assistance for the AUTM Licensing Survey and Salary Survey reports and databases
Customer service
Data entry and verification
Database report generation
Marketing & Communication Support
- Provide administrative support for the marcom team including but not limited to supply ordering, proofreading, design support and other duties assigned.
This job is remote but applicants in the Washington, DC Metro area are preferred to facilitate more frequent full-staff meetings.

The technical qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required with 2-3 years’ practical experience in an administrative role with some experience working with awards programs.
- Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills.
- Excellent written skills including a command of English grammar, usage, and vocabulary.
- Proficiency in MS Excel
- Experience using the Slayte awards platform is preferred by not required.
