Overview
Bridge Boston Charter School is a tuition-free, K1-8 public school serving 335 students in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and the surrounding community– many of whom have experienced social, emotional, and developmental barriers to learning. Bridge Boston’s robust social-emotional program is designed with an eye to supporting students who have experienced trauma in their homes and communities.

THE POSITION
Reporting to the SENIOR DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS, the DEVELOPMENT & COMMUNICATIONS ASSOCIATE will be responsible for increasing the visibility of Bridge Boston through strategic communications management, marketing, public relations, and social media, as well as some crossover operational and administrative tasks. Additionally, the Associate will serve as Assistant Secretary to the Bridge Boston Board of Trustees.
Specifically, they will be responsible for:
DEVELOPMENT
- Grant Writing
- Researches grant opportunities from 5,000-100,000 & write proposals to secure funding for selected projects
- Annual Report
- Serves as lead project manager
- Gift Tracking & Database Management
- Receives all gifts, processes them according to procedure, and ensures compliance through monthly reconciliation with our Finance Office
- Develops yearly acknowledgment letter template and distributes to all donors as part of the gift tracking process
- Provides reporting of gifts received upon request from the Director of Development; weekly reporting to ED and sometimes others (School Board Chair and/or Foundation Board Chair)
- Maintains integrity of database by accurately adding all gift and other donor data
- Coordinates several large mailings per year (supplies, postage, mailing lists, ordering, stuffing, working with volunteers, etc.)
- Orders and maintains supplies of letterhead and other necessary supplies
COMMUNICATIONS
- Develops and executes a replicable content calendar that encompasses internal and external communications via daily and bi-weekly newsletters, social media channels, and website content
- Collaborates with Human Resources to publish a daily newsletter to staff
- Collaborate with the Director of Family Engagement to publish a bi-weekly newsletter to parents and families
- Collaborate with the High School Advisor to publish a bi-weekly alumni newsletter to parents and families
- Works independently to mine content for and publish a bi-weekly newsletter to donors and supporters
- Serves as a Communications Representative for Bridge Boston in the broader Massachusetts Public Charter School community by participating in weekly meetings, occasional trainings, and other engagement opportunities hosted by Comms4Charters & MCPSA
- Maintains photo consent records for all students and works with any photographers in the building
- Recruits and manages the team’s Social Media Intern (if applicable)
ASSISTANT SECRETARY - BRIDGE BOSTON BOARD OF TRUSTEES
- Coordinates logistics and ensures public compliance for the Bridge Boston Board of Trustees, and its sub-committees: Finance Committee, Committee on Trustees, Development Task Force, and Program Task Force
- Coordinates logistics and ensures public compliance for the Bridge Boston Foundation Board
- Performs other duties as requested by supervisor
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong interpersonal skills; exemplary written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and motivated, with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Willingness to work autonomously and collaboratively as a member of a team
- Ability to take initiative and prioritize work
- Proficient use of Google & Microsoft Office suite
- Proficient use of virtual platforms in the following areas is a plus: email marketing, simple graphic design & video editing, social media scheduling, and database management
- Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity, and belief in the value of diversity
- Clear willingness to make and learn from mistakes; values and solicits critical feedback
- Bilingual Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Cape Verdean Creole highly desirable
Compensation
$30,000 - $35,000 Annually
