SSTI, a national nonprofit organization that strengthens initiatives to create a better future through science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, seeks one or more graduate-level Policy Assistants.
Responsibilities
SSTI’s Policy Assistants will be given meaningful projects that require intellectual curiosity, analytical skills, self-direction and strong written and verbal skills.
They conduct research to respond to questions on ways to encourage economic growth through science and technology, assist SSTI staff on research projects, and contribute content to SSTI’s website and weekly newsletter. Further, Policy Assistants are encouraged to develop an original project that will benefit SSTI’s members while also adding to the assistant’s career portfolio.
The role is best-suited to someone with excellent writing abilities and an interest in the intersection of economic development, public policy and science/technology.
Benefits
Policy Assistants have the opportunity to understand vital elements of economic growth, learn from SSTI team members, and network with economic development professionals throughout the country. Successful assistants should have a natural career pathway to one of SSTI’s members or similar organizations.
Assistants are paid $18 per hour for 15-20 hours of work per week, with the ability to accrue paid time off, including holidays and leave.
Openings
Positions are available to begin in the summer or fall semesters, and we are particularly interested in candidates available to work for the full academic year.
Candidates located anywhere in the U.S. will be considered, but preference may be given to candidates in California, Indiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Maryland or Washington (state). SSTI is based in Columbus, Ohio.
To Apply
Applications must include a cover letter, resume and 1-3 writing samples (preferably including at least one that is non-academic). Questions and applications can be submitted to humanresources@ssti.org.
