Position Summary
Under the direction of Human Resources Director and Internal Communications Manager, the Specialist of HR Communications is responsible for the creation of content for HR-related staff communications and the production of internal events for MLK Community Healthcare (MLKCH). They will assist in the creation and maintenance of a diverse range of HR-related communications content, including intranet pages, screensavers, posters and flyers. In addition, this position will work with the HR team to plan and execute a series of employee events and campaigns related to engagement and retention as well as MLKCH’s strategic objectives of retaining high-quality staff while enhancing the employee experience, and earning a Best Place to Work distinction.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Works closely with and in service to the Human Resources team to create (research, write, and edit) internal communications and organizational messaging focused on MLKCH staff as the primary audience and recipient; this includes HR messaging, e.g., a benefit highlight, policy updates, HR events and or seasonal campaigns.
- Partners and collaborates with the Strategic Communications team to align and synergize all internal messaging and touchpoints reaching employees ensuring we are maximizing ways to inform, engage and inspire MLKCH staff and remove redundancy and or missed opportunities of engagement.
- Serves as advocate and voice of an employee by actively rounding, engaging, inquiring, and learning about the real-time experience of MLKCH staff and the best ways to reach and convey information.
- Use of online content management systems, including the hospital’s intranet, digital asset management tool for photos, videos, and other types of content (e-newsletter platform, digital design platforms, and more).
- Writes, edits, and deploys a variety of HR/employee engagement communications and materials including flyers, newsletters, presentations, and e-mail announcements in partnership with the Manager of Internal Communications.
- Monitors and reports on communications performance by utilizing key analytics tools (e.g. Survey Monkey, Staff Base e-mail tracking) to optimize communications strategy and improve employee engagement. This would also include reviewing HR data (exit interviews, new hire survey feedback, etc.) to predict trends and improve the employee experience through communications and events.
- Identify and support life-cycle employee retention initiatives.
- Partners with HR stakeholders to craft clear, effective, and engaging messaging for enterprise annual campaigns.
- Responsible for ensuring MLKCH’s culture and brand values are represented in all communication.
- Assist with the planning and executing of all internal events related to retention and employee wellbeing.
- Management and forward-planning of HR-related events calendar, in collaboration with MLKCH’s Strategic Communications department.
- Booking and onboarding vendors (design, photography, video, other) as appropriate. Logistical and other project coordination for photo and video shoots related to HR-related events and campaigns.
- Active participation in meetings with the MLKCH Strategic Communications team marketing, communications, system-wide internal communications to ensure no overlap and smooth running of multiple campaigns across the system.
- Maintain flexible work schedule to accomadate employee engagement events.
- Given the nature of the work, some activities may require after or before normal work hours and weekend work, as appropriate.

Position Requirements
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in journalism, public relations, marketing, or communications.
Candidates with extensive experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
- Qualifications/Experience
- 3 years of internal communications and/or content creation experience, preferably in healthcare with a strong portfolio of engaging content creation.
- Demonstrated experience with content management systems, social media platforms, and digital asset management with a good understanding of digital best practices.
- Demonstrated superb written and verbal communication skills. Strong and persuasive interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated experience producing a range of communications products of various formats and lengths (including video and photo projects) on time and to a high standard.
- Experience coordinating and collaborating with team members, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Demonstrated expertise in producing, posting, and maintaining content for an employee intranet as well as for social media channels.
- Ability to independently problem-solve, and to reach goals through teamwork and collaboration.
- Special Skills/Knowledge
- Basic graphic design skills and ability to do simple design using existing design platforms.
