General Summary:
The Media Relations and Communication Manager will play an integral role in content creation and curation and executing GLIDE's storytelling, digital communication, and reputation management strategies. This role is responsible for writing and producing, and curating various content, including articles, profiles, news releases, and other content, such as video and audio profiles for both internal and external audiences. The Media Relations and Communication Manager will work closely with the Director of Marketing to ensure frequent and positive coverage about GLIDE in local and national media.
The Media Relations and Communication Manager must have the ability to maintain an editorial calendar and successfully edit others' work and ensure editorial quality. The Media Relations and Communication Manager helps to develop and implement an integrated communications plan that maximizes opportunities that support and advance GLIDE's strategic plan, fundraising goals and strengthening relationships and cultivation efforts with stakeholders (clients, donors, volunteers, and community partners).
This person manages a comprehensive communications portfolio and creative initiatives, that support and advance GLIDE's community-building, philanthropic interests, and social innovation goals — including overseeing the writing, editing and distribution of E-News emails, and GLIDE’s Impact Report, print newsletter to constituents, and the greater community.
The Media Relations and Communication Manager is a community builder who promotes engagement with GLIDE's constituencies with content celebrating mission, values, and each other. This work includes finding new ways to engage and inform existing and new donors, clients, community members with compelling stories of our clients, our work, and the strategic direction, mission, and GLIDE values.
The individual who will thrive in this position is a creative, driven professional committed to advancing social justice and truly values GLIDE's mission and values. This person, on occasion, must work non-traditional hours (nights and weekends) and be present at GLIDE-focused advocacy and fundraising events. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Edits, writes, produces, and curates a variety of content, including articles, profiles, news releases, and other content, including video and audio segments.
- Creates and manages an annual editorial calendar.
- Must have the ability to successfully edit others' work, ensures editorial quality, and maintain an editorial calendar.
- Enhances existing and grows new relationships with the media, relevant external stakeholders, and the general public.
- Ensures GLIDE's brand and strategic messages are represented consistently in digital and print communications.
- Identify and track metrics to measure communication efforts' effectiveness, including impressions, engagement related to GLIDE's externally facing content.
- Manages the updates of print and online communications collateral to support GLIDE's various programs and initiatives.
- Works with vendors and partners to produce effective and compelling communications collateral
- Responsible for communications-related budget expenditures, processing all vouchers and expense reports.
- Manages and works with public relations consultant/s to generate story and press ideas.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- BA Communications or related field and 4+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in all aspects of developing a three-year Communications Strategy that aligns with strategic objectives.
- Experience with creative concept development, art direction, storyboarding, and message development for creative design work.
- Experience working in an organization funded primarily by philanthropy and relationship-based contractual agreements.
- Thorough understanding of branding principles and tactics through multimedia, including social media, the Web, Email marketing and SEO.
- Social networking knowledge and experience.
- Experience working in a community-based social service agency with the targeted population (homeless, people with addiction, and mental health problems) helpful.
