Summary
The Marketing and Communications Coordinator will be responsible for raising community awareness of The Children's Cabinet's mission and programs. This includes further developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing plan with strategies for utilizing media and corporate contacts, website and social media content, advertisements, public service announcements, and media releases
Duties
Work with the CEO, COO, and the Fund Development Team to execute a marketing strategy for The Children's Cabinet. Responsible for implementing and assessing the success of all aspects of this plan.
- Achieve and communicate a thorough understanding of The Children's Cabinet's programs, mission, and strategic priorities.
- Work with Program Directors and other staff to identify and relate compelling stories of need and success, especially to communicate the benefits and impact of giving to The Children's Cabinet.
- Establish and maintain relationships with media contacts. Organize editorial board meetings with the Reno Gazette-Journal, the major television news stations, and others to inform them of The Children's Cabinet's role in responding to issues affecting children and families and to pitch news and feature stories about The Cabinet.
- Write and distribute media releases and provide appropriate follow-up to ensure coverage. Plan media events for check presentations and key annual events (Art of Childhood, Adopt A Family, Great Reno Balloon Race, and graduation ceremonies), as necessary.
- Determine and manage The Children's Cabinet's social media strategy, posting timely and interesting content highlighting programs and issues, promoting events, recognizing donors and volunteers, and initiating communication and engagement. (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn,etc.).
- Represent The Children's Cabinet in public and in the media. May include leading building tours and giving informational presentations to local businesses, clubs, and associations (as needed).
- Liaise with our pro bono advisors, identifying and coordinating branding, graphic design, and web design projects.
- Improve and maintain the organization's website. Includes working with KPS3 on design and structural changes and includes content development and writing. Includes tracking website analytics, making regular updates, and coordinating content with program directors.
- Design and implement public service/awareness campaigns (print, radio, television, and billboard); secure donated ad space if possible.
Develop a yearlong editorial calendar for a monthly e-newsletter. Create content and graphics for newsletter utilizing Constant Contact for distribution of e-newsletter.
- Complete graphic design projects in-house. Coordinate with printing companies and mail houses as needed.
- Advise staff in all departments on how to create print and promotional materials that reinforce
The Cabinet's brand (style, look, and message). Ensure that organization messages are consistent, accurate, and impactful.
- Support The Children's Cabinet's Fund Development team with fundraising activities, special events, information tables, and public presentations where and when needed.
- Coordinate the implementation of marketing plans, campaigns, and strategies for all departments, events, and third-party fundraising initiatives.
- Manage annual advertising and marketing budget with Director
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferably in journalism, communication, marketing, public relations, business, or a related field.
- 3 to 5 years of marketing, public relations, or fund development experience is required.
- Outstanding writing and speaking skills.
- Graphic design skills. Experience using Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Canva is highly desired.
- Experience working with social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Experience with WordPress and Constant Contact

- Be able to pass a background check.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work.
- Must be capable of fulfilling all the physical aspects of the job including but not limited to: being able to lift and carry 50 lbs.; able to walk up and down stairs, repetitive keystroking (initiating and responding to e-mails; typing copy; etc.)
- Must possess a valid Nevada Driver's license; and proof of insurance if utilizing personal vehicle for company business.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends. Some travel required; office visits and/or training
