Job Description
El Buen Samaritano Episcopal Mission (“El Buen”) seeks a Communications Manager. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Communications Manager will manage the implementation of a comprehensive communications strategy during an exciting period of organizational growth. The position will focus on the Board’s strategic goal related to Marketing and Communications with a focus on communicating clearly and transparently with funders, partners, and the families we serve as we work to encourage action based on their trust in our value, contributions, and impact.
The Communications Manager is responsible for creating and managing communications content on behalf of El Buen, and works closely with the Development team, programs, and management to implement communications strategies and identify meaningful opportunities to increase El Buen’s presence and recognition in the community. This position requires creativity, independence, flexibility, accountability, and being fully bilingual in Spanish and English.
Along with a great team, this position is full-time based in Austin, TX. Given the nature of the position the selected candidate will need to be on-site at El Buen at least 3 days per week and must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings for special events.
What You Will be Doing:- General Communications (40%)
- Develop and manage an annual, comprehensive communications plan in coordination with leadership and program staff.
- Work with programs and the Development team to create and execute the annual and monthly communications calendar.
- Develop content for marketing and outreach materials and quarterly newsletters.
- Ensure that all communications and marketing material aligns with brand standards.
- Manage and monitor the communications ticketing system to ensure proper responses and delivery of communications requests from staff.
- Develop presentation templates utilizing El Buen branding.
- Manage all vendor and contractor relationships for communications projects.
- Develop escalation protocols for managing communication crises, should they arise.
- Monitor and reply to the hello@elbuen.org emails and all social media questions or concerns and refer clients to appropriate services or program areas or leadership
- In collaboration with the Development team, develop campaign messaging and ensure promotion via social media, website and email for all campaigns and fundraising appeals:

- End of Year
- Amplify Austin
- Spring Appeal
- Back to School
- 911 appeals throughout the year
- Social Media and Website Marketing (30%)
- Support El Buen Samaritano’s brand, and publicize events, programs, and opportunities, by using social networking tools such as, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, newsletters, blogs, and others.
- Work closely with leadership and programs to plan and implement comprehensive social media strategies and maximize the impact of social media initiatives, in both English and Spanish. This includes developing a monthly communications schedule/calendar.
- Track analytics and create reports detailing successes and failures of communications campaigns.
- Create ongoing conversations with key influencers and current and potential stakeholders, including our Spanish-language online community.
- Post short video clips (“reels”) and messages on social media platforms.
- Assist in creating donor-centered content for social media
- Works with programs and web developer to update website content.
- Create language and content for advanced and short notice social media requests.
- Attend program and special events to document via social media. May require attending after-hours or weekend events.
- Public Relations, Presentations (15%)
- Act as media liaison for the organization. Respond to media inquiries and perform media outreach to achieve brand placement in publications. Completing field media requests and coordinate fulfillment as well as maintain a tracking system and archive for all press materials.
- Develop press releases for events and program promotion, and draft talking points for media interviews (English and Spanish).
- Procure press/publicity materials and research, write, and edit online (blog) and newsletter content.

- Graphic Design (10%)
- Support the brand of El Buen by taking on a variety of creative projects, in addition to assisting with layout and photo retouching on a regular basis.
- Some projects include online ads, Google Ads, posters, flyers, brochures, and the organization’s annual report.
- Proficiency in InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop is an asset.
- Photography and/or videography skills are an asset.
- Works with leadership and web developer to update website content
- Additional Responsibilities (5%)
- Participate in networking, partnership & outreach events on behalf of El Buen, as requested.
- Create and provide regular reports on communications to management and the Board.
- Participate in annual Development/Communications Strategic Planning.
- Participate in emergency response operations as needed to address community disasters.
- Attend all El Buen events and act as communications & media point person.
- Attend professional relevant development opportunities.
What You Will Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications and/or a related field; and
- Four to six (4-6) years of experience working in communications/marketing and social media in a non-profit organization or large institution such as a university
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required
- Submission of portfolio of work samples is required upon request for interview
- Excellent writing and grammar skills, and proven ability to construct clear and compelling donor and client communications.
- Working knowledge of communications best practices, procedures, and strategies
- Experience with data management, social media analytics
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency with communication and email marketing tools and social media such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter; proficiency with Adobe programs; some knowledge of website management preferred
- Ability to utilize data collection system to track information related to communications with public
- Efficient time management and effective interaction with other staff on client issues and access
- Ability to directly or indirectly supervise and lead teams. Ability to effectively communicate (written and oral) and work well with a variety of stakeholders from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Ability to meet deadlines and quick turnaround requests
- Ability to adapt to quickly changing business environment
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, analyze data, make good decisions, attend to details, and manage projects
