Girls Who Code is an international nonprofit working to close the gender gap in technology. Through our free programs, we are leading the movement to inspire, educate, and equip young women and non-binary individuals with the skills to pursue careers in technology fields. Within our programs pipeline, we serve individuals in 3rd-12th grades through our Summer Immersion Program, Self-Paced Program, and Clubs. Girls Who Code is searching for a passionate, detail-oriented Outreach Communications Specialist to support email and social campaigns that drive expansion and recruiting for these programs.
The ideal candidate is a compelling storyteller and experienced copywriter who understands principles of visual, digital, and UX design. They are passionate about creating meaningful brand experiences that inspire people to act, and they have knowledge of email marketing and social media best practices and trends. The candidate has experience developing impactful email marketing and social campaigns and creating engaging content for diverse stakeholders, including adult and student audiences. They are a highly-organized and detail-oriented self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment. They bring a passion for closing the gender gap in tech by connecting young people with free, high-quality computer science opportunities.
This is a part-time, regular position which will entail a year-round commitment up to 20 hours per week with a June 2023 start date.
Our preference is for candidates in the Pacific time zone, due to the nature of the work.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support end-to-end management of national email campaigns, including planning, development, testing, execution, monitoring, and reporting
- Work closely with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager to develop communications resources, including messaging guides with sample outreach language and process documents
- Work closely with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager to plan and execute email and social media content calendars that align with organization priorities, forecasts, and pivots
- Develop email and social media content (copy and visual) to increase program awareness, support recruiting goals, and drive program applications
- Plan, create, and manage monthly Community Partner newsletter to enhance partner relationships and inform Community Partners of relevant network updates and initiatives.
- Collect and track testimonials, program stories, and program highlights to support marketing initiatives and expand communications resources
- Create compelling visual assets to enhance messaging and audience engagement.
- Work closely with the Outreach Communications & Events Manager and the Technology Team to implement strategic audience segmentation and create, update, and maintain clean lead lists
- Track and update campaign performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making regarding audience engagement, content development, and communications strategies
- Support planning and execution of market and user research and A/B testing to inform and optimize content development and strategies
- Work with Marketing & Communications team members to coordinate postings to social media and the weekly GWC newsletter
- Identify industry trends to shape best practices and inform strategies
- Meet virtually with Outreach Communications & Events Manager and attend regularly-scheduled team meetings or other GWC meetings virtually
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in end-to-end execution of large-scale email marketing campaigns incorporating compelling copy and on-brand design geared towards different stakeholders to achieve defined performance goals.
- Experience developing engaging social media content across a variety of platforms, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills with an orientation towards customer service that prioritizes timely, clear, thoughtful, and respectful communications to stakeholders from all backgrounds
- Knowledgeable in market and user research and A/B testing
- Highly organized and detail-oriented project management skills with an ability to prioritize and balance workloads to meet tight deadlines and goals
- Skilled in collecting and analyzing data to track outcomes against established goals and make recommendations
- Follows industry trends and best practices with a desire to expand knowledge and incorporate learnings into work.
- Proactive and self-motivated; you understand how to get things done, and you follow-through with projects from start to finish
- Independent worker who is comfortable collaborating in a remote, distributed team environment (your manager will be remote)
- Experienced and comfortable working with Slack (required), Google Suite (required), Zoom (required), Campaign Monitor (preferred), Salesforce (preferred), Canva (preferred) and Adobe InDesign and Illustrator (preferred)
