Employee Benefits Compliance Consultant- Irvine or San Luis Obispo, CA
The Employee Benefits Compliance Consultant possesses a deep knowledge of health plan administration. The role requires regulatory familiarity and understanding of various health and welfare plan laws. The role will also be responsible for executing a compliance program strategy. This role is fully client facing, working closely with our clients on their benefit/compliance programs.

Essential Functions Of This Role
- Establishing, maintaining, and leading an effective compliance program in accordance with federal, state and all other laws and regulations.
- Be the subject matter expert on compliance with benefits processes, reporting, audits, and government regulations (ERISA, 401k, HSA, Cafeteria Plans etc.).
- Stay current on benefits regulations and trends.
- Conducts pro-active compliance assessments including ERISA control group testing, ACA affordability, ALE status testing, safe harbor reviews and discrimination testing.
- Subject matter expertise and consulting support during regulatory filing periods (1094, 1095, PCORI, 5500, etc.) and health plan documentation and disclosures (SPD/WRAP).
- Provide compliance advisement to self-funded clients.
- Assess and evaluate IRS penalty charges and provide potential resolution.
- Conduct new client compliance assessments, including the identification and tracking of required federal and state compliance responsibilities.
- Facilitates internal training to ensure company process alignment with current health and welfare plan regulatory and compliance topics.
- Develop and deliver external, client-based education training series and compliance material both independently and in collaboration with our HR Business Consultant including but not limited to informational webinars, how-to video, compliance newsletter, and self-help resource library.
- Liaising with counsel, vendors, and other consulting resources as necessary to help ensure the company maintains an effective compliance program.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR or other related field, or equivalent experience required.
- 5-7+ years managing health and welfare plans, including employee benefits compliance management
- Proven working knowledge of ACA compliance
- Experienced with analyzing and conceptualizing complex issues and consequences to achieve positive results.
- Experienced with handling confidential information with discretion; resolves issues quickly and efficiently
- Professional certification in benefits or related HR area strongly recommended
