SBJ Tech prides itself on covering the intersection of technology and sports more thoroughly than any other resource, and this Newsletter Editor plays a critical role. Our daily weekday email newsletter is one of our most valuable conduits for connecting with our audience and helping them make informed business decisions. Our weekly subscription newsletter, SBJ Tech, provides a deep-dive “expert-to-expert” look at the most important industry topics today. This Newsletter Editor will play a key role in enhancing the value we provide the executives and innovators in the sports industry who use our newsletter products to stay ahead of the curve.
The Newsletter Editor will be empowered to:
- Own the editing and production of both our daily newsletter, Power Up, as well as our weekly send, SBJ Tech
- Coordinate with fellow SBJ editorial team members to produce a must-read weekday morning newsletter
- Make a name for yourself as a sports technology expert and thought leader
- Develop a voice and relationship with the audience
- Create, edit and write exceptional sports technology content such as daily news, interviews, and overall industry analysis that will inform our subscribers each day
- Stay on top of the latest sports tech news, insights and analysis in order to create relevant and timely content for our subscribers
- Moderate conference panels or webinar sessions as needed
What we are looking for in our Newsletter Editor:
- Significant email newsletter management experience
- Experience with crafting a consistent voice for a returning audience
- Unflappable ability to hit deadlines and adapt to daily news cycles
- Strong understanding of digital media, SEO, social media and online content strategy
- Exceptional communicator who will coordinate daily with fellow editorial team members
- Digital and tech savvy editor and writer
- Ability to effectively work remotely and communicate digitally
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 3 years of journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing
- Familiarity and comfort with AP Style
- Creative planning skills
- Strong news judgment
- Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to hit deadlines consistently
- Excellent source-building and information-gathering
- Attention to and stickler for detail
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Works well under deadline pressure
- Strong understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure
- Ability to break news and to identify newsworthy events and sources
- Strong writing, analytical and investigative interviewing skills
- Proven experience building, maintaining and engaging an active audience
- Experience with using social media to source and promote content a plus
- Understanding imperatives of multiple platforms – print, web, social, etc.
- Proven ability to utilize a broad set of tools to tell stories and engage the audience
- Ability to leverage relationships with sources to deliver content that differentiates the organization from competitors
Job Location:
- Work remotely with consistent daily communication with the SBJ Tech team, as well as the larger SBJ newsroom
- Being in a major city is preferred
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
Extensive computer use required. Some travel required, including to company headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. and to various company events across the United States. An ability to work flexible work schedules, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed, is required.
Compensation:
- Salary Range $60,000- $65,000
