Fellowship Program Overview: Fellows will have access Program Officer, Government & Legal Affairs and Manager, Government Affairs & Advocacy to explore, discuss, brainstorm, inquire, or develop all aspects and functions of their work. Manager, Government Affairs & Advocacy prioritizes communication and accessibility to Fellows to identify opportunities to provide helpful insight and direction. LAA is innovative, mission-focused, diverse, collaborative, values-driven and focused on results. Internship descriptions vary but may include desk research, drafting documents, assisting with event planning, helping researchers prepare for missions, monitoring human rights developments in various countries, data analysis, liaising with current and prospective donors, and engaging in advocacy efforts aimed at curtailing human rights violations. Qualifications
• At least one year of experience editing a newsletter for a major organization
• Instincts for growing newsletter audiences and setting strategy
• Experience with multiple email service providers
• Degree in Journalism
What You'll Do
• The ideal candidate must be working on their journalism background and experience with social media content creation and tracking, newsletter writing and design, and basic knowledge of graphic design
• 0-1 of experience in a newsroom setting with a solid understanding of investigative journalism?
•Experience crafting content and campaigns for various social media platforms (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
•Experience writing newsletters with an emphasis on audience development and working with email marketing services, such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.
•Strong writing and editing skills (including experience with AP Style)?
- Experience researching, collecting, and synthesizing large amounts of information from a range of sources and providing recommendations on next steps.
- Proven ability to write and communicate clearly and effectively, especially explaining complex issues in simple terms.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines on a tight timeline while maintaining a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to think critically and strategically about solving problems and coming up with solutions that will drive results.
Fellowship Commitment: 20-25 hours per week; 4 months. The position is part-time and remote, which involves some collaboration with a small and motivated team.
Weekly Schedule:
Fellowship Program at LAA: Upon completing a successful Fellows, Dr. Esam Omeish will serve as a professional reference and advocate for interns. Internship durations may be set by university partners providing academic credit (you are encouraged to explore these options within your institution; however, academic credit is not required to intern with LAA)If obtaining academic credit, the hour restrictions, payment restrictions, and other work-related matters are guided by university provisions.
Stipend: At the conclusion of a successful Four month work period (roughly the length of a long semester), a $1000 stipend will be issued to the student.
