Description
The Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program is currently seeking qualified candidates for a paid internship opportunity. This internship will provide professional work experience for undergraduate or graduate level students and provide first-hand exposure to different aspects of climate resiliency work that is currently conducted by EEA’s Climate Team.
The internship program will run from approximately June to September. The exact duration of an individual’s internship may vary depending on that student’s specific academic calendar. Hourly rate for this position is $27.50
The Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program intern will work directly with the MVP Deputy Director and other members of MVP and EEA’s Climate Team to support grant administration and other program needs. This may include developing and/or curating content for our website (resilientma.mass.gov), collaborating with the MVP team for our new planning grant process (MVP 2.0), drafting our quarterly newsletter, and other various grant administration tasks as assigned.
The MVP intern may assist MVP staff in the following areas:
- Updating the EEA Climate Grant Viewer, MVP website, and MVP databases with awarded MVP grant information
- Updating MVP presentations with current data
- Assisting Deputy Director with MA Climate Change Clearinghouse (resilientma.org) useability study
- Assisting with the development of GEAR (Guides for Equitable and Actionable Resiliency) maps through ArcGIS
- Collaborating with MVP team to start developing program evaluation metrics
- Drafting the MVP quarterly newsletter and other various marketing materials
- Additional relevant work assignments
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED AT HIRE (List Knowledge’s, Skills, Abilities)
Enthusiasm, Eagerness to Learn & Professionalism
Enthusiasm about a particular subject area, eagerness to learn and professionalism are often more important for student interns than prior subject matter experience. However, students studying in the climate resilience, sustainability, or environmental science, planning, and policy fields are encouraged to include information about relevant education and experience within their application packet.
Preferred Knowledge And Skills
- Strong project management and teamwork skills—ability to take a project concept and seek out the answers and resources needed to run with it (with guidance and support!).
- Interest in climate change adaptation and resilience
- Interest in the role of government to lead, innovate, and support around climate adaptation and resilience action
- Skills in website management and/or web-based collaborative platforms like SharePoint—or a willingness to learn!
- Previous ArcGIS experience/familiarity a plus
- Strong writing skills
- Attention to detail
Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate (2-year or 4-year program) or graduate degree program to be eligible for consideration in this program.
