COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR
CLASSIFICATION: Year-round; Full-time
FLSA: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Communications Manager; Director of Marketing & Communications
LOCATION: Park City, UT
TRAVEL: 10-20%
TOTAL COMPENSATION: $48k-$55k, 3% annual bonus potential

U.S. Ski & Snowboard is seeking a Communications Coordinator with an emphasis on snowboard and freeski communications. This is a full-time, beneficial position eligible for our full benefits package including medical insurance and retirement. Summary / Objective
U.S. Ski & Snowboard is seeking a Communications Coordinator to manage internal and external communications to key stakeholders. This person will be self-motivated, organized and a team player, with a keen attention to detail and the ability to think outside of the box.
You’ll work closely with all departments, including Communications, Partnerships, Creative, Events and Foundation teams on internal and external communications across the organization, while overseeing communications with stakeholders, including membership, partners, donors and U.S. Ski & Snowboard fans.
The job will also have an emphasis on snowboarding and freeskiing, with this person serving as the liaison between the public and the U.S. Freeski and U.S. Snowboard Team athletes and staff, while helping to grow awareness of the athletes and the team.

Roles & Responsibilities
Communications
- Development of content to convey U.S. Ski & Snowboard messages to key stakeholder audiences (donors, partners, membership and fans), including newsletters, company and department announcements, event recaps and general news releases
- Collaborate with internal Communications/Marketing, Creative, Partnerships, Events, Foundation and Membership teams to develop organizational messages
- Create and edit internal communications, speeches, talking points and writing on owned and partnered media outlets
- Provide oversight on all company content to ensure adherence to company voice and delivery
- Development and deployment of content via email and website
- Assist athletes in brand building, self-promotion and increasing personal and team fan base
- Educate athletes and staff with skills that support their traditional media, social media and public interaction
Public Relations
- Handle inbound media requests and work with athletes, executives and press officers to coordinate interviews and media opportunities
- Data management of stakeholder audiences and media lists
- Pitch and secure coverage for organization, athletes and events
- Track media coverage and conduct reporting
- Ensure the dissemination of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard brand through athletes
- Provide general support as needed, including at major U.S. Ski & Snowboard events
- Work with the media and event organizers on the athletes’ and team’s behalf including distribution of athlete and staff comments, information alerts, audio, photography and video as appropriate to help tell the story
- Serve as a liaison between athletes/staff and news media including management of mixed zones and other media areas, as well as other pre-race and post-race opportunities with both media onsite and offsite
- Provide support for television broadcasters including host broadcaster, key networks and U.S. Ski & Snowboard production
Content & Social Media
- Manage and maintain a content calendar
- Develop news information content for each major event including Olympics, World Championships, World Cup, U.S. Grand Prix, X Games and Dew Tour (plus other events on occasion)
- Build and maintain athlete biographies throughout the season with complete updates performed each March/April
- Manage athlete biography information for FIS and broadcasters
- Assist social media team by developing posts, assets and ideas for social channels
- Ability to post to social media during events around the world within brand guidelines
Partner & Donor Management
- Work with athletes and alpine staff to facilitate sponsor and donor obligations, and work with athletes on forging stronger partnerships with both
- Strategize with U.S. Ski & Snowboard commercial partnership teams to create initiatives that will grow awareness within the realm of our partnerships
- Manage exposure of partner brands in public areas including finish area, awards podium, photo shoots, etc.
- Provide support for U.S. Ski & Snowboard commercial partner and foundation projects
Athlete Management
- Manage high-pressure environments, such as finish areas and press conferences
- Ensure clear communication from the U.S. Ski & Snowboard management team to athletes/staff and vice-versa
- Conduct all work in an atmosphere conducive to athletic excellence

RESPONSIBLE TO
The position will be managed by the Communications Manager, while formally reporting to the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Marketing & Communications Director.
Competencies & Experience- Required
- 2+ years of professional communications experience
- Education in Marketing, PR/Communications, English, Advertising, Business or related fields
- Passion and engagement in skiing and snowboarding
- Strong writing skills and understanding of engaging copy
- Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented—able to work on tight deadlines and in a live environment
- Ability to build strong relationships and partnerships with athletes, support staff, and media entities
- Leadership, communication and strong relationship-building skills to effectively work between departments and unite organization and athletes
- Proven writing background
- Positive, upbeat presence with others, including both coworkers and outside contacts
- Self-motivated, easily adaptable, passionate, creative and curious
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment; available for travel and working non-traditional hours
- Preferred
- Experience with newsletter development
- Experience with SalesForce
- Knowledge of AP Style
- Understanding of digital media, including content and social media
- Knowledge of U.S. Ski & Snowboard sports, specifically within freeskiing and snowboarding
- Ability to ski or snowboard and love for the outdoors
