MEXIC-ARTE MUSEUM Marketing/Website/Special Events Associate
JOB DESCRIPTION
Mexic-Arte Museum is the Official Mexican and Mexican American Fine Arts Museum of Texas. Mission: The Mexic‐Arte Museum is dedicated to enriching the community through education programs, exhibitions, and the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture for visitors of all ages.
The Marketing, Website, Special Events Associate is in charge of all external Museum communications and special events. Alongside these responsibilities, the Associate produces all promotional efforts including, but not limited to content production, website and social media management and coordinate special events. Candidate must be adaptable to changing environments, be punctual and meet deadlines. This position reports to the Executive Director.
Preferred Background
- Bachelors or Master’s Degree in English, Visual Arts, Communications, Marketing, or Public Relations
- Work experience in a nonprofit, preferably arts nonprofit (preference given to candidates with experience working in PR, marketing, or communications)
General Skills Required
- Writing/editing/proofreading skills
- Website Management using wordpress– Must have knowledge of wordpress
- Updating the website is a daily task. Candidate must know how to use wordpress proficiently.
- Interpersonal and networking skills – must be a people person!
- Public speaking (live and on camera)
- Ability to lead/manage projects and other staff
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Social Media
- Event Calendar Management
- Exceptional attention to detail and organization
- Ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced work environment
- Experience with basic photography
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and flexibility
Public Relations/Website/Marketing Skills Required
Purpose of position to provide skilled writing, editing, marketing, social media and technical communications expertise and services to support Mexic-Arte Museum programs and activities.
The Associate produces high-quality, professional, engaging information for communications products such as news releases, newsletters, brochures, website and social media sites. All current events and news information entries must be created and uploaded to website on an ongoing daily basis.
The Marketing/Website/Special Events Associate is responsible for all the following:
- E-Marketing: creates target/direct email campaigns; tracks and analyzes results
- E-Newsletter: creates, writes, manages and edits content of monthly e-newsletter
- Website:
- Uses wordpress content management system
- Maintains Museum's website and social media on a daily basis
- Writes content
- Gathers and assembles background information for website
- Verifies all material for accuracy and appropriateness
- Maintains Museum's Website and social media on a daily basis
- Media Relations:
- Writes and pitches press releases; schedules interviews and features with TV, radio, print, and web media
- Disseminates and evaluates communications products
· Manage media contacts and mailing list
· Manage zoom, mailchimp, square accounts
- Social Media:
- Creates and posts information on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram;
- Gathers and assembles background information for communications materials and verifies all
- material for accuracy and appropriateness.
o Creates effective advertising and promotional messages in collaboration with graphic designer; knowledge of basic marketing strategies
Event Management:
· Must Experience with festivals or special events, particularly City of Austin and TABC permit process
· Ability to coordinate various aspects of events (budget, ticket sales, catering, special equipment, entertainment, and volunteers)
· Assist in planning & execution of all affiliate events
· Assists in planning, coordinating, managing special events and receptions
· Coordination of Taste of Mexico, food festival and Viva la Vida Festival
Other
· Work on other Museum events and projects as needed.
· Maintain professional relationships within the field.
Plus Skills:
- Knowledge of Latinx art and culture
- Spanish language (written and oral)
- Basic knowledge of Photoshop and InDesign
- Experience seeking event sponsors and volunteers
- Volunteer Management
- Familiarity and knowledge of the visual arts and Latinx/Mexican culture
Salary: $45000 plus partial health insurance. Parking provided.
