Communications Specialist / Bookkeeper
Lone Star Clean Fuels Alliance (LSCFA):
We are a small non-profit in Austin, working to make the transportation sector cleaner and greener. Our organization is part of the US Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program. We work with businesses, governmental agencies and other organizations to facilitate their vehicle transition away from petroleum toward more sustainable, less-polluting fuels and vehicle technologies. Our team creates timely and effective educational opportunities for these organizations and key decision and policy makers. Each person at LSCFA is an important part of the team. Our organization is small, with three staff based in the Austin area, each working remotely from their home offices. Staff meet regularly in person and through video and attend regular in-person meetings and events in the Austin area.
Candidate: The Communications Specialist / Bookkeeper is a hands-on job for an energetic, dependable candidate who possesses attention to detail, solid written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time. The chosen candidate will be an integral part of the daily communications, organizational and bookkeeping functions critical to a strong foundation for the organization and will work closely with the director in day-to-day decisions, projects and reporting and planning and executing outreach opportunities.

The chosen candidate has a unique opportunity work with the Director as a key partner in the organization’s growth from the ground up while expanding their own role. Skills And Qualifications
Education
- An Associate’s Degree or high school diploma and a combination of work experience and classwork in communications and bookkeeping and/or a strong willingness to learn the missing skill set
Skills / Qualifications
- Be both a teammate and self-starter
- Strong project management skills with high level of attention to detail and time management
- Ability to identify and create organizational efficiencies
- Curious mind and willingness to learn about cleaner fuels and electric vehicles
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word, WordPress, MailChimp or similar
- Experience creating digital and print materials
- Experience in basic accounting procedures, QuickBooks and Excel to keep books and track /monitor program budgets and deliverables
- Willingness to learn about federal and state grant accounting procedures as needed
- Good communication skills: email, phone follow up with members, stakeholders and Board of Directors
- Good research skills to understand new topics, industries, and connect relevant trends quickly
Primary Responsibilities include:
Bookkeeping
- Process and track monthly payroll, invoices, annual member dues and sponsorships via QuickBooks, balance checking account, provide regular financial information to treasurer and director
- Prepare any Department of Energy required forms
- Prepare all IRS documents and forms
- Maintain / review annual subscriptions
Communications
- With input from Director create monthly newsletter with relevant information, maintain mailing and stakeholder lists
- Update website, create regular social media posts
- Design announcements and flyers for upcoming events
- Regular communication with staff, members, stakeholders and Board of Directors
Administrative
- Review administrative systems and identify efficiencies
- Brainstorming with staff on events, annual plan, strategic plan and annual survey
- With input from Director prep for participation in quarterly Board meetings
- Conduct quarterly Fuel Price survey
- Assist Director with Annual Fleets & Fuels Survey
- Assist Director with quarterly reports for the Department of Energy
Part-time: 20 hours/week $20 - $25/ hour
Location: Must live in or close to Austin. Remote position with weekly in-person meetings in Austin. Other meetings and events requiring participation occur regularly in Austin area.
