Minimum Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (with a preference in communications)
- Two year’s of experience preparing official public communications
- A network of media representatives in New York City
- Experience managing, assisting, and supporting communication campaigns – including strategy messaging, collateral (blogs, success stories, digital content, etc. – public engagement, constituent outreach, medial relations, and social media management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational and coordination skills
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office/Suite, Google Docs, Outlook, and general computer skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Personal transportation to facilitate travel to all events at all times
Duties Description A New York State Senator is searching for an excellent communicator to join a collaborative, dynamic, and dedicated team as a Communications Coordinator. The primary responsibilities will be overseeing communications, including managing the district’s public relations aspect, writing and delivering print and digital press releases and newsletters, and coordinating special events.The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the Chief of Staff to articulate the Senator’s vision.Responsibilities will include:
- Develop publications such as newsletter, press releases, email announcements, social media and videos
- Arrange press conferences
- Maintain the Senator’s website
- Determine the communications strategy and maximize opportunities
- Proof and edit documents from other staff, as required
- Monitor the Senator’s official email account and office calendar
- Attend meetings, as necessary
- Assist with constituent services, as necessary
- Other tasks as assigned by the Senator or Chief of StaffThis position will require travel to meetings and events, and some evening and weekend work schedules will be necessary.
