Overview
An incredible, unique opportunity to glean real world, hands-on digital strategy and marketing experience within the arts & entertainment industry from the team that supports #1 New York Times best-selling, award-winning author, poet, educator, and producer Kwame Alexander.
With the guidance and mentorship of the Chief Strategy Officer, the Digital Marketing Intern will learn various facets of digital marketing, including website, e-newsletter, and social content ideation, planning, creation, scheduling and posting, along with community management, sourcing additional content, and more.
We’re looking for someone with a collaborative, passionate spirit who loves storytelling and is eager to learn more about digital marketing through publishing and entertainment partnerships, projects, and endeavors.
Details
The Digital Marketing Intern will learn how to:
- Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly digital content calendars, with consideration for overall business strategy, priorities, and related initiatives.
- Offer suggestions and ideas for content focus, including proper mix of company initiatives and announcements, personal stories and milestones, industry news, user generated content, etc.
- Help determine what, when, where, and how content will be showcased across owned social accounts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), plus website and e-newsletter (Substack) content
- Draft, proofread, edit, format, and post text, images, and videos related to social media, website, and Substack content and updates.
- Proactively monitor social mentions (direct and indirect), activity, and trends to identify and recommend real-time content and engagement opportunities in alignment with company and brand mission, vision, and values.
- Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner, based on community guidelines (provided by the company).
- Manage social media engagement during live events, such as Instagram Live, Facebook Live, etc.
- Review of content and engagement analytics and data to help identify patterns and trends - i.e. what’s working and what’s not, providing actionable insights and recommendations for how to optimize.
This is a virtual, part-time, unpaid internship, with a minimum of 12 hours, maximum of 20 hours per week, slated for Q3/Q4-2023, with the possibility of extension.
Requirements
- A love for storytelling and words, both written and spoken.
- A dedication to learning and growing.
- Collaborative approach to projects with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Consistent demonstration of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail, including an excellent grasp of grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Proactive approach in communications (written and verbal), problem-solving, and resolve to follow-through.
- Ability to prioritize projects, work independently, and meet deadlines, with high self-initiative.
- Ability to perform work remotely on your own personal laptop.
- Experience with social media, including an understanding of social networks, similarities and differences between various platforms, and considerations on using social media on behalf of a company or public figure, as opposed to personal use.
- Experience with other digital marketing channels, such as websites and/or e-newsletters, also a plus.
- Experience with social media management tools (such as Hootsuite), design tools (such as Canva), and Google Workspace are also a plus.
