Harpeth Conservancy is seeking an enthusiastic full-time Communications Coordinator to join our Community Engagement Team. The primary objective is to engage the broader community by articulating a coherent narrative that enhances our visibility to target audiences, informs and educates the public on issues impacting waterways in Tennessee, and mobilizes support for our mission using print and digital communications tools and platforms. This position requires storytelling-based social media and website management, original content creation, email marketing, and creative thinking with an overall objective of empowering and providing the tools for communities to effectively champion clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee.
Supervised by the Community Engagement Manager, responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Manage and implement HC’s communications strategy, in collaboration with other staff members
- Manage HC’s presence on social media and networking platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, LinkedIn, Linktree, and future technologies)
- Manage bi-weekly+ electronic newsletter (Constant Contact)
- Manage website content including: blog posts, event pages, program area pages, etc. (WordPress)
- Manage the preparation of press releases and media advisories
- Manage our digital archive of all content, including press and promotional collateral
- Maintain content publication calendars and lead monthly communications meeting to align timeline and goals across multiple departments
- Maintain brand integrity across all digital platforms, including style and content consistency
- Collaborate with other staff in the creation and implementation of digital, video, audio, and print content
- Write, edit, and proofread across a variety of print and digital content mediums, including the Annual Newsletter
- Track engagement across various platforms and utilize appropriate analytics to maximize traffic to digital platforms and increase audience via data-driven decisions
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices to improve our exposure to target audiences
- Assist with engagement and fundraising events as needed
- Other office and organizational tasks as assigned by the Community Engagement Manager
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of two or more years of relevant professional work experience
- Technical Proficiencies: Slack, Donor Perfect, Dropbox, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative suite and/or Canva (for graphic design), Social Media Platforms, email marketing software such as Constant Contact, and project management software such as Monday
- Understanding of digital and content strategy with experience in building successful audience programs across various mediums
- Willingness and comfort in learning new digital tools and systems as well as evaluating new ones and training people to use them
- Experience utilizing communication tools for social movements and policy advocacy is a plus
- Excellent time management, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, responsible, and with the flexibility and willingness to work outside of the constraints of a standard work week, as required, including weekends and before and after scheduled hours
- Knowledge of and interest in environmental issues and scientific concepts to aid in explanation of our work to a broad variety of audiences
- Commitment to the mission of Harpeth Conservancy and to the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice and be dedicated to creating environmental equity and ensuring environmental justice
- Valid Driver’s License in the State of Tennessee and adequate transportation and proof of insurance
- Ability to transport 25+ pounds and be in a stationary position for long periods of time as required for events
