WHAT IS DOLA?
DoLA is part of a national network of locally-owned media brands focused on helping our culture-forward audience find awesome events. Since its launch, DoLA has established itself as the go-to source for discovering what to do in Los Angeles. DoLA’s event listings are readily available on desktop or mobile so you can easily find the best concerts, festivals, and cultural events in Los Angeles and the 22 other DoStuff Network cities (and counting) around North America.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
DoLA’s content intern will be responsible for content entry: adding events to the site, finding cool events, maintenance needs, and content creation on DoLA’s website. In addition, this intern will have a strong interest in creative writing and help largely in creating and pitching original editorial content. This person will need to be focused, able to work quickly and efficiently, plus have an eye for detail. Interns must excel at writing and be familiar with general blogging platforms. Bringing an individual style and personality to your work is always encouraged.We are offering real-time, real-world experiences to sharpen the skills of individuals who want to build their resume, gain references and/or fulfill college credit. In compliance with the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division’s Fair Labor Standards Act, this internship is unpaid.
PLEASE NOTE: We are prioritizing applicants who are looking to receive academic credit and are ideally majoring in fields adjacent to digital marketing (e.g. Marketing, Communications, Advertising, Journalism).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Computer with strong internet access
- 10 - 15 hours per week for a 3-month commitment. (2 business days per week)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Superb communication and writing skills, including the ability to proofread and edit
- Prior awareness of DoLA - active user of the site, and familiar with our other outlets (Newsletter, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
- Strong understanding of Instagram and Twitter with current, active profiles on each
- Strong passion for music and/or Los Angeles events and nightlife
- Self-Motivated - ability to focus and complete duties in a casual environment
- Flexible schedule
- Candidate should ideally be looking to fill a college credit requirement. This is negotiable, but the candidate will have to prove their ability to take on the position if not seeking credit
- Photoshop/InDesign experience not required but a plus
ROLES
Content Management including:
- Entering events as well as happy hours, pop-up experiences, and other happenings in LA from various sources i.e. newsletters, venues, press releases, and event calendars
- Fixing artist/user/event pages
- Merging duplicate listings, general site maintenance
- Building venue or event lists (i.e. best patios, festival after parties, best tacos, etc.)
- Producing and creatively thinking about other original editorial content that would be of interest to the DoLA community
- Additional various tasks – adding info sent by Content Manager to event pages, double checking venue listings, etc.
