Job Description
The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project's Mission:
We are dedicated to helping lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in Upstate NY achieve their goals of building and sustaining healthy families.
The Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project offers provider training, educational programs, information and referral services, a Directory of LGBTQ-Inclusive Services, and support for LGBTQ families and prospective parents. Our network of Pride and Joy Families provides social and educational opportunities, and a sense of community to LGBTQ parents and their children.
Typical Duties And Responsibilities
- Work with Co-Principal Investigators to develop and manage the Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project.
- Supervise and evaluate other Project staff.
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of social and educational programs for LGBTQ family audience.
- Work with Health Educator to oversee planning, implementation and evaluation of culturally responsive programs for health and human service providers, educators, and pre- service professionals.
- Maintain Project website and presence on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms.
- Prepare and submit NYS Dept. of Health monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Coordinate and implement Project goals of capacity-building, networking, and relationship-building with other LGBTQ and non-LGBTQ providers and organizations.
- Prepare, maintain and oversee Project budget and expenditures.
- Prepare and supervise the implementation of Project work-plan.
- Oversee Project communications and media presence, including: press releases, monthly email newsletter, and periodic USPS mailings.
- Administer webinars and online meetings.
- Engage LGBTQ families across Project service areas, both individually and in group settings.
- Represent Project at networking and outreach events, including LGBTQ Pride events across the Project service areas.
- Organize and convene regular meetings of LGBTQ-Inclusive Provider Network of the Central Southern Tier of NY and other coalitions as outlined in the work plan.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 2 years of experience in community organizing
- counseling and/or peer support
- work with children, families, and/or LGBTQ individuals.
Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
- Commitment to the mission of the Lesbian and Gay Family Building Project.
- Cultural competency/familiarity with LGBTQ issues.
- Strong oral/written communication skills.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and web-based social networking sites such as Facebook.
- Flexibility to work day, evening, and weekend hours, particularly during summer months.
Preferred
- Educational background in social work, human development, psychology, or related field preferred.
- Public speaking experience.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
- Ability to work independently under general direction as well as in a team environment.
Additional Information
Salary: $62,000 (Full-Time, Annual Salary)
