Job Summary
The McCluskey Center for Violence Prevention at the University of Utah engages in
research and education on sexual violence among college students, particularly as it
affects students from historically minoritized backgrounds, including students of color,
queer and trans students, and students with disabilities. The center seeks to bridge the
gap between research and education by bringing together researchers, prevention
educators and students to focus on scholarship and practice for understanding,
intervening in, and preventing sexual violence.
Position Summary
This position is a full-time benefited position that works 10 months of the year, August 01 – May
31 and does not work from June 1 – July 31. Benefits will continue and bi-weekly pay will be paid equally throughout the year. The person in this position will work closely with full-time and student staff to create materials to market educational programming as well as creatively educate campus through focused messaging. The primary responsibility of the Education and Communications Coordinator is creating and implementing a communication plan that aligns with the educational goals and mission of the MCVP through the use of social media, blog, center newsletter, and broader campus communication.
Responsibilities
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Educational Communication
- Update and maintain the content of the MCVP website to support current
educational and research initiatives
- Supervise the creation and implementation of a consistent blog
- Continue to grow the MCVP’s social media presence as a space to update
followers of educational programming on campus and educate followers
- Maintain a monthly newsletter that is shared with campus partners and
supporters of the MCVP
- Create powerpoints for internal and external workshops
- Mentor and support student staff related to educational communication
- Promotion of the MCVP
- Design flyers to promote educational offerings from the MCVP
- Market MCVP educational opportunities to the larger campus community
- Create and distribute reports to highlight the happenings, achievements and
research of the MCVP
- Collaborate with education team for intentional campus outreach to grow
workshop numbers
- Create promotional materials for distribution at MCVP workshops, tabling, and
other events
- Assess marketing (social media, QR codes, webpage numbers, newsletters, etc)
to understand our audience and inform messaging.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). One year of related experience and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required. Experience in different styles of writing, publishing software packages and advertising concepts may be preferred.

The MCVP maintains a non-hierarchical staff structure and seeks to add a Education &
Communication Coordinator who is willing to collaborate with a dynamic team to creatively
engage in sexual violence prevention education at the University of Utah. The ideal candidate
will be familiar with topics related to oppression and dating and sexual violence among college
students. The candidate would also be comfortable working in an environment where topics
related to sexual violence are discussed in depth on a daily basis.

- Previous experience in creatively using social media as an educational tool
- Experience with design, writing, communication, and desktop publishing
- Familiar with sexual violence as it relates to power, equity, and inclusion
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with MCVP team
- Openness feedback as related to self-awareness and self-improvement
- Strong written and verbal communication
