Job Description: Social Media Manager (Location: New Hampshire)

Reports to: Head of Social/Deputy Social Editor

Note: This is a fully remote position, but applicants must reside in New Hampshire and adhere to EST business hours.

Role Overview

As the Social Media Manager at Courier Newsroom, you will play a pivotal role in our mission by curating a vibrant online presence. You will be responsible for crafting a cohesive and engaging voice across all our social media platforms, facilitating audience growth, and supporting our mission to inform and inspire through the power of local journalism.

Key Responsibilities

Content Management: Curate and publish content across all social media accounts for a specific property.

Voice and Tone: Maintain consistent voice and tone across all social platforms, ensuring alignment with our brand identity.

Growth Initiatives: Create and publish growth-oriented content across all social media channels, with a particular focus on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.

Collaboration: Collaborate regularly with Civic Impact and Community teams on ongoing projects, performance analysis, and best practices.

Digital Reporting: Act as the frontline for digital reporting and sourcing as news unfolds, and lead the development of social media audiences.

Strategy Development: Formulate and execute an overarching social media strategy, audience growth plan, content calendar, and measurement framework.

Audience Engagement: Drive traffic to our newsletter through engaging, timely, and informative social media posts while collaborating with other departments.

Trend Insights: Inform the editorial team about emerging trends and optimize content packaging for maximum engagement.

Creative Outreach: Develop creative ideas tailored for social distribution, including building partnerships with influencers and other publishers.

Audience Expansion: Create social-first content to reach new audience segments and convey our perspective to both mainstream and niche communities.

Story Packaging: Edit and A/B test story packaging to maximize engagement on all stories.

Content Scheduling: Schedule content created in-house and by external contributors.

Collaboration with Reporters/Editors: Coordinate with reporters and editors to create social-specific promotions for their stories.

Additional Duties: Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Ideal Candidate

Experience: Possesses 4+ years of professional experience in the media industry.

Language Skills: Proficient in English.

Social Media Expertise: Demonstrates 2-3 years of recent hands-on experience in creating content for diverse social media channels, particularly for a media outlet.

Platform Mastery: Deep understanding of content creation protocols, social trends, and best practices for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

Analytics: Proficient in using social media analytics tools and well-versed in engagement metrics and audience growth strategies.

Project Management: Demonstrates the ability to make independent decisions and manage multiple projects and tasks effectively.

Startup Enthusiast: Displays an interest or prior experience in a fast-growth startup environment.

Passion for Journalism: Holds an interest and/or relevant experience in journalism or the news industry.
