The Associate Director, of Communications plays a pivotal role in elevating the mission and impact of our organization while bolstering its brand recognition. Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Operations and Culture Director.
Responsibilities
- Content Creation and Management
Oversee the continuous development, publication, and maintenance of content for our website, including occasional blogging, email updates, social media, collateral, and newsletters.
Translate verbal or written content from team members into concise materials for our website, newsletter, and social media.
Draft on-brand materials such as one-pagers and presentation slides to support the dissemination of our research, policy resources, training, and workshops.
Collaborate with graphic designers to enhance the visual presentation of our research materials and coordinate communications efforts with external consultants.
Manage press releases and media interviews with relevant outlets.
Develop and execute a strategic communications plan in close collaboration with our leadership team.
Organize and facilitate monthly internal communications meetings.
Work closely with the program team to project manage publication efforts and provide strategic guidance for reaching and engaging key audiences.
Monitor key metrics to evaluate our communications efforts and provide recommendations to meet performance goals when necessary.
Actively monitor various communication and outreach platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, LinkedIn), encouraging feedback and engagement from both team members and external audiences.
Ensure consistency and uniformity in our branding and representation across internal and external messaging, including email signatures, Zoom profiles, business cards, and elevator pitches.
Support the program team by organizing webinars, including virtual event rehearsals, live tech support, and post-production outreach.
Handle public relations inquiries directed to team members.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or at least 7 years of experience in fields such as communications, public relations, or marketing.
Exceptional organizational, communication (both written and verbal), and listening skills.
Proficiency in various project management, email automation, and analytics tools.
A passion for storytelling and the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and compelling manner to diverse audiences.
Demonstrated proficiency in analytics, process management, and problem-solving.
A track record of making independent and proactive strategic decisions.
Experience managing third-party service providers, including graphic designers, web developers, and public relations firms.
An ability to effectively manage and follow up on emails and tasks with competing timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in a nonprofit organization.
Experience working within or with energy justice or policy organizations and networks.
Familiarity with copy editing or technical editing.
Proficiency with applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Google Analytics, Asana, Mailchimp, video editing software, and various social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok).

Salary And Benefits
Salary range: $80,000 to $100,000, depending on experience.
