Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

Position: Senior Communications Associate
The Senior Communications Associate is responsible for managing and growing VOA-GNY’s digital presence, including its website, social media channels, and email marketing activities. The Senior Communications Associate will also support the team’s graphic design needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Support the implementation of VOA-GNY’s strategic marketing and multi-channel communications plan by creating and implementing all digital elements of the plan in collaboration with the Communications Manager.
- Develop and execute VOA-GNY’s social media strategy (paid and organic) with the primary goal of significantly growing our existing social media presence; run analytics routinely.
- Produce VOA-GNY’s marketing and/or fundraising e-communications and internal e-newsletter in collaboration with the Communications Manager.
- Manage the VOA-GNY website, ensuring content is kept up-to-date and supports the content strategy; recommend enhancements and run analytics routinely.
- Design graphics to be used on social media and the VOA-GNY website in alignment with brand guidelines; provide other graphic design support as needed.
- Oversee VOA-GNY’s Google Ads account, managing the relationship with our ad management vendor and keeping ads current.
- Ensure all sponsors are appropriately recognized on the VOA-GNY website, social media and/or in e-communications.
- Serve as the liaison for other departments, producing and ordering collateral like t-shirts, business cards and other branded items in alignment with brand standards with approved vendors. Execute digital campaigns specific to programs or program needs, upcoming events, funding needs, current events, etc.
- Organize and manage media assets and content, including photography, logos and photo releases, using the organization’s media asset platform.
- On occasion, attend events to take high-quality photos, shoot video and support event-related needs.
- Support the Communications team with administrative tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant professional experience related to the role including social media management with proven results.
- Thorough understanding of social media platforms, digital content creation and web/social analytics
- Outstanding writing and editing skills and understanding of voice, nuance, and audience. The highest attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks against tight deadlines
- Experience collaborating across departments and functional groups
- Highly adaptable with excellent problem-solving skills; a self-starter
- Excellent ability to understand and simplify complex issues
- High level of proficiency using CRM and analytics tools including Google Analytics, as well as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.). Proficiency with Microsoft Office and an e-marketing application like Constant Contact or MailChimp.
- All applicants must also submit at least 1 writing sample (i.e. blog post, article, press release) and 1 social media post (link or screenshot) that they produced; portfolios are encouraged.
