This positionis responsible for providing communication of Support & Outreach goals through a coordinated public relations and public education campaign. The incumbent also assists with planning and executing Support and Outreach events, programs, and services to meet community needs; conduct press conferences and provide training seminars for the public. The incumbent is also responsible for recognizing and mediating complex and diverse issues which are frequently controversial and explosive in nature and critical to program operations.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in implementing the Community Engagement Plan (i.e., planning community events and programs, running social media accounts, and serving as liaison between community at large and GVI)
  • Collects stories, photos, data, etc. to use across social media platforms and in external communications collateral
  • Drafts and edits internal and external communications collateral including newsletters, brochures, one-pages, social media content, and video content
  • Assists in planning community events and public education campaigns and programs that meet community needs
  • Gathers, organizes, and formats information related to GVI goals, objectives, and services.
  • Promotes GVI image consistent with the overall direction of the program.
  • Coordinates timely and accurate responses and information to citizens, community groups or governmental agencies.
  • Encourages participation in the use of GVI community services.
  • Assists in coordinating and conducting community meetings, media events or educational programs.
  • Maintains contact with the public and GVI partners to enhance the perception of GVI services
  • Manages GVI Convert Kit CRM by updating contacts, uploading quarterly newsletter, and writing email blasts
  • Assists in managing information gathering through focus groups, open forum, surveys, etc. from the general public, target population, and stakeholders
  • Assists in updating annual GVI Community Engagement Plan
  • Assists in developing and monitoring data collection system
  • Serves as secondary community contact for GVI

  • Knowledge of communications and public relations principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of community engagement principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of implementing strategic communications strategies.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of social media content creation and management.
  • Knowledge of the methods and techniques of conducting research.
  • Skill in implementing communications programs.
  • Ability to apply survey results to marketing and promotional projects.
  • Skill in applying the methods and techniques of print and electronic communication.
  • Skill in preparing reports, surveys, and documentation.
  • Skill in collecting and analyzing data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Job Requirements:

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mass communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Canva, InShot, and other media creation applications.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Instagram and Facebook business accounts.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Convert Kit, MailChimp, or other CRM servers.
  • Three years’ experience in content creation; including video editing.
  • Three years’ experience in implementing strategic communications plans.
  • Three years’ experience in implementing strategic community engagement plans.
  • Three years’ experience in creating and editing communications collateral such as branded presentations, newsletters, pamphlets, or brochures.
  • Three years’ experience in gathering, organizing, formatting, translating, or interpreting information into forms more easily understood by the media or public, and disseminating the information using print, broadcast, or electronic media.
  • Three years’ experience in public speaking which includes gathering, preparing, and presenting information to the public.
  • Three years’ experience in planning public events, campaigns, programs, or services to meet community needs.
