The Role

The Vice President, Brand & Marketing role at EBONY is an entrepreneurial visionary who lives and breathe culture and is passionate about EBONY’s legacy, its archives, and its commitment to delivering excellence to the global communities of Culture. As the Vice President of Brand & Marketing, you will be instrumental in driving the development and execution of brand strategies, ensuring a strong brand identity, increased brand awareness, and enhanced loyalty. Working closely with the EVP of Brand and Marketing, you will play a key role in shaping the brand position in the marketplace and influencing creative outputs across internal departments. This role involves strategic planning, market research, budget management, and team leadership to support the overall success of the organization. The Vice President of Brand & Marketing will have direct reports, with the possibility of adding additional roles as required by the business. This is a game-changing and exciting opportunity to reimagine one of the most well-known and beloved media brands in the world.

Responsibilities

  • Marketing & Strategy:
    • Champion the strategic repositioning of the EBONY visual brand identity, while still maintaining the brand's core values and mission.
    • Implement the overall brand strategy and ensure it is consistent across all brand touchpoints, including marketing, PR, talent, experiential/activations, editorial, digital, newsletter, social, sales and brand partnerships.
    • Develop and execute marketing campaigns that will elevate the brand, inspire the current and next generation of EBONY readers, and contribute to revenue growth.
    • Develop and execute against long-lead planning calendars for current and future year(s)
    • Implement relationship-building initiatives that enhance brand awareness and advocacy.
    • Utilize data analytics to inform marketing strategies, including consumer insights, market trends, and performance metrics.
    • Negotiate and manage partnerships to maximize brand exposure, reach, and revenue opportunities.
    • Manage and maintain agency relationships as prescribed
  • Visionary Leadership:
    • Lead and grow a talented brand & marketing team (inclusive of strategic marketing, talent and experiential), inspiring and mentoring them to reach their full potential and fostering an innovative, collaborative culture.
    • Provide mentorship, resources, and training for a collaborative and innovative work environment.
    • Influence branded outputs across internal departments to ensure consistent brand positioning in the marketplace while guiding flawless, integrated cross collaboration throughout the organization.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across departments within the organization.
    • Lead experimentation with new marketing channels, technologies, and tactics to stay ahead of the curve.
  • Performance / Excellence:
  • Monitor consistency of brand across all touch points.
    • Track brand metrics, customer surveys, and market share to gauge the effectiveness of brand identity efforts – for overall brand, campaigns, and partner activities.
    • Ensure overall brand & marketing team meets minimum baselines for benchmarks and KPIs.
    • Position EBONY as a thought leader and innovator in the media through speaking engagements, industry partnerships, and thought leadership content.
    • Coordinate cross-functional initiatives to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment across all touchpoints.
Qualifications

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in brand, marketing, strategy, public relations and analytics
  • Proven track record of award-winning strategies and executions in a branding, digital, social, and experiential
  • Deep knowledge and interest in digital media, paid social media, content & technology.
  • Player and coach mentality - ability to set the creative vision but also execute against it. Strong leadership and team management skills to inspire, mentor, and guide the creative team effectively.
  • EBONY is an incredibly fast-paced and creatively demanding environment and creatives will have to balance many projects at once with tight deadlines and production schedules.
