Job Description

The Staff Photographer/Visuals Editor is responsible for photographing, curating, and producing innovative visual content across platforms (including social, video, digital, print, experiential) that meets brand integrity and production quality standards, while remaining on schedule and on budget.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Photograph content for Bon Appétit and Epicurious multiple times per week as assigned.
  • Work closely with editorial leadership and team to understand visual/photo needs for assigned projects and prioritize accordingly.
  • Demonstrate strong photographic skills and a creative aesthetic to ensure all content meets BA/Epi and Condé Nast standards for brand integrity and quality.
  • Regularly review portfolios and begin to build relationships with agencies, photographers, and food and prop stylists.
  • Pitch cross-platform ideas that ladder up to established brand identity and visual strategy
  • Own all research, image selection, credits, and CMS upload/publication across brands and platforms.
  • Support all aspects of cross-platform (and cross-brand if applicable) photo shoot production, ensuring the creative concept is upheld from brief to final delivery, including:
    • Curate photographer lists and create visual mood boards
    • Commission teams and liaise with agents, photographers, studios, stylists, hair/makeup, and other vendors throughout the project
    • Create and maintain timelines, schedules, budgets, shot-lists, call-sheets, and other production documents—proactively sharing and communicating this information to all key stakeholders throughout the project
    • Help lead on-set coordination: can lead a crew through a shot list in a timely manner, problem-solve when issues arise on set, and communicate clearly to help ensure the visual direction is executed successfully
    • Partner with colleagues in video to ensure appropriate synergy across photo and video production
    • Coordinate the post-production process for lo-res and hi-res photo selection and final delivery. For self-shot photos (as needed), maintain editing, processing, retouching, color correcting, and archiving of all files in an organized manner.
  • Contribute to tracking and maintaining the photo budget across platforms, exercising sound judgment in when to escalate to Associate Creative Director and/or Operations Director.
  • Secure contracts, photo fees, and usage rights for all images (produced and researched), in partnership with CN legal and business affairs teams.
  • Ensure all invoices are tracked and processed in a timely manner and that jobs are wrapped accurately and efficiently.
  • Contribute additional content across platforms (e.g. social, video, writing, etc.) as assigned.

Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years work experience in photo/visual production or related field, with knowledge of various image libraries, stock agencies, photographers, food stylists, etc.
  • Demonstrated experience in food and lifestyle photography and illustration; experience with conceptual still-life, portrait, and documentary photography a plus.
  • Strong editorial judgment with demonstrated experience contributing to visual stories across platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom, with the ability to edit and adjust images for print and web. Experience with shooting and editing video is a strong plus.
  • A highly motivated self-starter with proven ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • A meticulous eye for detail and impeccable organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • A work-style that balances entrepreneurial spirit with operational rigor.
  • Ability to travel for various assignments and shoots, as needed.

The expected base salary range for this position is from $72,000 - $87,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
