ABOUT SOCIAL STORYTELLERS COLLECTIVE
Social Storytellers Collective (SSC) is an independent digital newsroom examining how power, policy, business, technology, and culture shape everyday life. We go beyond the headlines to explain the structural forces driving the issues people experience every day, producing original journalism, newsletters, and multimedia content for a growing national audience.
As a small but ambitious newsroom, every team member has the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. This internship offers hands-on experience working directly with the founder while learning the inner workings of a modern digital media organization.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
SSC is seeking a creative, organized, and dependable Virtual Content Creator & Production Assistant Intern to support editorial production, social media engagement, marketing, and audience growth.
This position is ideal for a student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing, Media Production, or a related field.
The internship is especially well suited for a student home for the summer who wants meaningful, real-world experience building a professional portfolio. While the initial commitment is for the summer, SSC is open to a longer-term internship for exceptional candidates.
Because this is a small, entrepreneurial newsroom, we're looking for someone who is excited to build, not just complete tasks. The ideal intern is proactive, dependable, creative, and motivated by work that serves the public interest.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Assist with editorial production and publishing workflows
• Manage production schedules and editorial calendars using Airtable
• Track assignments and ensure deadlines are met
• Create and schedule social media content across platforms
• Support social media engagement by monitoring comments and interacting with audiences
• Assist with marketing initiatives designed to grow SSC's digital presence and newsletter subscribers
• Coordinate graphics, articles, and promotional assets across platforms
• Conduct research to support editorial projects
• Help organize content pipelines and production workflows
• Participate in virtual planning and production meetings
• Provide general administrative and production support as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
• Preferred majors include Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Marketing, Media Production, or related fields
• Demonstrated experience using Airtable
• Ability to manage multiple projects while adhering to deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Creative, detail-oriented, and highly organized
• Friendly, professional, and self-motivated
• Comfortable working independently in a remote environment
• Passion for storytelling, journalism, digital media, and content creation

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
• Must have access to a reliable personal computer and high-speed internet (Wi-Fi)
• Apple products (MacBook, iMac, etc.) are preferred due to our production workflow but are not required
• Candidates using Windows devices are welcome to apply if they are comfortable working with our digital tools and platforms
• Must be comfortable working in a collaborative virtual environment and communicating through online productivity and project management tools
