THE OPPORTUNITY

Greater NY is expanding its team and adding a Communications and Events Manager to support the growth of Greater NY’s events programming and communications activities. The role will include working with senior leadership to plan and execute network events which underpin the organization’s increasing profile. The Communications and Events Manager will also manage existing communication channels - website and marketing collateral – build new communications channels including social media and will support the Executive Director on special communications projects as Greater NY evolves and strengthens its communications platform.

 

The role is an opportunity to take a dynamic organization and brand to a new level, building on a strong platform with the ability to increasingly own and shape the direction of the organization’s communications profile.


The Greater NY Communications and Events Manager will:

THE ROLE

Greater NY has seen significant growth in recent years and is on track to continue. The Communications and Events Manager will provide a dedicated resource to manage Greater NY’s third program and to build the communications supports that amplify the synergistic work of all its programs. Specifically, the Communications and Events Manager will work on:


Communications and Website Management:

Communications:

o  Serve as the point person across programs to identify and manage program content that can be used in regular network communications and with key stakeholders – for instance a newsletter – to further engage Greater NY’s growing network.

o  Manage existing marketing collateral and support the Greater NY team in thinking through updates to increase program recruitment, support active partners and analysts and engage corporate and foundation partners.

o  Provide high level support to Greater NY’s Executive Director as new communications opportunities emerge that can support raising Greater NY’s overall profile.


Website:

o  Actively manage content updates on Greater NY’s website including updating new partnerships, Analyst Corps projects and foundation and corporate supporters.

o  Identify a strategy for documenting events on the Greater NY website and for dissemination to the larger Greater NY community to support engagement beyond the actual event.

o  Support the development and management of video clip content that can be used to highlight Greater NY programs – partnerships conversations, Analyst Corps interviews and event highlights.


Social Media Development:

o  Establish a social media strategy for Greater NY’s LinkedIn page that initially focuses on highlighting events but ultimately expands to incorporate themes emerging from the Partnership and Analyst Corps programs and existing marketing collateral.

Connect to all Greater NY current and alumni partners and Analysts on LinkedIn to develop a robust following and to further Greater NY’s profile-raising efforts through these connections.


Event Management and Operationalization:

o  Plan, organize, and direct all logistics relating to events to ensure smooth, efficient, and effective operations in all pre and post event activities which include:

o  Creating Salesforce campaigns to manage event details and to develop invitation lists.

o  Coordinating all relevant information to develop save the dates and invitations with Greater NY’s outside designer in a timely manner.

o  Generating all correspondence relating to events including managing invitation send outs, reminders, RSVP tracking and weekly RSVP reports.

o  Serve as the point person to facilitate coordination with key stakeholders including panelists; board members; on site/host contacts; caterers; videographers, design consultant, etc.

o  Organizing all relevant day of materials from signage to name tags, security lists and event swag.

o  Coordinating post event follow up including thank you notes to invitees, site hosts, panelists and conducting any other follow-up that facilitates and strengthens greater connectivity among Greater NY’s community. 

o  Play an active role in managing current processes and proposing and implementing new processes to streamline all events work.

o  In conjunction with the Executive Director, research potential topics for conversations, help review potential panelists, and provide support in scoping content for new events and coordinating all planning calls.


QUALIFICATIONS AND QUALITIES

Greater NY harnesses the best thinking of the public, private and nonprofit sectors. This role draws on skills developed through a variety of experiences. We are not looking for a particular resume. We are looking for the right person who brings new approaches, perspectives, and capacities to our team and organization. The following areas of experience are ones we believe build the skills for this role:

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, and/or 5+ years of experience in event management and experience in any of the following – development/fundraising, organizing, client management and/or constituent management.
  • Experience managing a social media profile for an organization, developing a social media platform strategy a plus.
  • Experience with external facing relationships, network development, cross-sector work experience a plus.
  • Experience working/supporting senior leadership team or nonprofit board a plus.
