Summer Associate, Innovation - New Frontiers

The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a Summer Associate for our Innovation team.

As a Summer Associate at The Rockefeller Foundation, you will have the chance to contribute to our initiatives through engaging, meaningful work assignments.

Program Details

  • This position is open to graduate students only.
  • A cover letter is required.
  • The 2024 summer program will run for 11 weeks from June – August 2024.
  • This position will be based in New York City with either a hybrid or fully remote schedule. Students engaged in fully remote work must be based in the United States.

Pay Range: $30 - $35 hourly rate. This represents the present low and high end of the Foundation’s pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary based on various factors, including but not limited to experience. This is a non-exempt position and thus eligible for overtime pay.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on issues in the New Frontiers portfolio and write briefs for internal and external use, through desk research and interviews with experts and stakeholders.
  • Support the execution of meetings and convenings, by researching potential invitees, managing invitations, and preparing research briefs and other materials.
  • Draft grant and contract materials with guidance from program officers.
  • Develop documents, reports, articles, infographics, etc. for internal and external communications.

Education, Experience, And Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a graduate program. We are a team of curious generalists and are open to students in a variety of programs. In 2024, much of our work will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI). This position may be of particular interest to master’s students in AI or technology, business, journalism, the social sciences, public policy, government, international development, innovation, and similar. Ph.D. students interested in careers outside academia may also be a good fit.
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities; able to synthesize large volumes of research and data to guide strategy.
  • Strong writer for general and specialized audiences.
  • Collaborative, flexible, curious, eager to learn, and interested in how foundations create and implement strategies working alongside partners.
  • Must be a proactive self-starter.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet search skills, and ability to learn new applications quickly. Basic data analysis and visualization skills with tools such as Tableau, Stata, R, or Flourish could be a plus.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.
