Policy Intern

Undergraduate or Graduate Policy Internship

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) seeks a motivated college student or recent college graduate to join a passionate team for a paid internship with the Policy and Member Advocacy Department.

The internship will support both our voter engagement campaign and our work to advance federal legislation on gender equity in education, women’s economic security including pay equity and college affordability, and civil and reproductive rights. The internship runs from June 2024 to early August 2024 and operates in a hybrid office environment in Washington, DC.

Essential Duties:

  • Conduct in-depth research on current and proposed legislation relevant to our work.
  • Assist with AAUW’s Voter Education Campaign, including researching congressional race candidates;
  • Conduct outreach to volunteers and partners in support of our voter engagement campaign;
  • Draft fact sheets, talking points, newsletter articles, and briefing materials;
  • Attend coalition meetings, and provide support for internal and external meetings, including materials preparation and tasks related to meeting follow-up;
  • Other related activities as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Interest in women’s equity and commitment to inclusion and equity;
  • Strong writing, and research skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, take initiative and seek direction as needed;
  • Strong and demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office suite;
  • Interest in public policy, advocacy, and communications;
  • Current pursuance of an associate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree, or recent graduate.


Compensation and Location

  • Interns are paid $17.50 an hour with a minimum of 20 hours per week.
  • Interns are expected to work during our regular business hours (9am to 5pm ET) Monday-Thursday with Fridays off. The internship operates in a hybrid office environment with two days per week in the Washington, DC, office. Part-time internships will also be considered.
  • Interns will have access to a computer when working in the office and will be provided a laptop for remote work
