Overview

Herzog Contracting, Corp. is currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Project Journalist in St. Joseph, MO, Kansas City, MO, or Fort Worth, TX to join our team. The ideal candidate is someone who has demonstrated attention to detail, works well individually and with others, and is inquisitive and willing to learn.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.
  • Work closely with the proposal department to identify project content needs (written material, photography, project quantities) to support their ability to highlight Herzog’s project qualifications and experience in proposals.
  • Write and develop project descriptions and comprehensive project profiles/narratives.
  • Track project progress and stories in real-time and write a complete history of the project - characteristics, scopes of work, construction means and methods, overcoming challenges, major activities, how work plans mitigated impacts on the public, etc.
  • Organize and upload project data, narratives, and photos into archival databases and other locations as directed.
  • Research and write monthly feature stories, project milestone updates, project win announcements, and other project stories that can be published in Herzog’s newsletter.
  • Prepare social media posts highlighting project progress.
  • Travel to project sites on a rotating basis to witness construction work activities and obtain project stories and details.
  • Arrange and coordinate interviews with project staff; conduct interviews to obtain project information.
  • Arrange and coordinate photography and videography at project locations.
  • Manage a schedule that tracks project touchpoints, interviews, planned stories/articles and social media posts, and forward looking project milestones.
  • Monitor the news, websites, and social media for project updates and progress.
  • Obtain key project assets such as photos, look ahead schedules, presentations, owner reports, quantities, production rates, praise letters, quotes, and references.
  • Track the movement of project personnel and ensure resumes are maintained and up to date.
  • Maintain historical database of completed construction project costs. Requires coordination with field office staff on multiple construction projects.
  • Work as a part of the proposal and estimating team to obtain specific project information as requested.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Business, or Engineering-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong writing and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Organized, dependable, detail-oriented, and deadline-driven.
  • Ability to coordinate with outside agencies, project staff, photographers, etc.
  • Some exposure to the construction industry preferred; ability to understand and read project-related information and documentation including engineering documents/drawings a plus.
  • Travel is required, over 50% of the time.

Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
